Electrolux Design Lab 2007, for its 5th annual competition, invites design students around the world to present their ideas for eco-friendly and sustainable household appliances and solutions for 2020.
Electrolux, a world leader in innovative cooking and cleaning solutions for the home, once again is encouraging students across the globe to fire up their creative juices and design household appliances for the future.
This year’s requirement is that submissions be environmentally-sound, commercially-viable and enable people to better live in harmony with the environment. The goal is to go above and beyond simple energy and water efficiency and suggest ways to foster sustainable behavior and product usage.
“We see this competition as one way Electrolux can involve the creativity of young people and get them to focus on a global climate problem that will affect us all,” says Tonghathai Kuvanont, Electrolux’s Marketing Director – Thailand & Category Director Refrigeration South East Asia.
Over the years thousands of students have participated in the Design Lab competition that has culminated in a series of international workshops and press events at the finals, which previously have taken place in Budapest, New York, Stockholm and Barcelona. The location for this year’s Design Lab event is Paris.
“Design is at the heart of the Electrolux brand”, says Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President Global Design. “I am excited that this year’s competition will bring us some innovative sustainability ideas that might one day reach the consumer.”
A jury of internationally renowned members of the design community will judge the entries based on their intuitive design, innovation, consumer insight and the ability to promote sustainable development for the future.
The finalists who pass National and Asia Pacific Level will be invited to the final award ceremony in Paris in end of November, where the winner of Design Lab 2007 will be announced. The first global winner will be awarded with 5,000 euro (or about 240,000 baht) and a six-month internship at one of Electrolux global design centers. The second and third global winner will receive 3,000 (about 144,000 baht) and 2,000 euro (about 96,000 baht) respectively.
Interested design students in Thailand can now register and submit their design projects at www.electroluxdesignlab.com no later than August 1, 2007. A limited number of finalists will be chosen by the end of September and invited to Paris to make a final presentation to the international jury in late November where the winner will be announced and prizes awarded.
“Besides the global award, Electrolux also opens for national competition. All design projects will be judged by a specially selected jury in Thailand. The winner will receive BHT 50,000 in price money and be sent to an Asia Pacific final where three contributions will be selected to participate in the global final in Paris, France at the end of November 2007.
