Eight Electrolux Design Lab finalists in race for ‘People’s Choice Award’ Vote on-line until 22nd September, 2010 to influence award.
An on-line vote is now in progress to determine the winner of the 2010 Electrolux Design Lab ‘People’s Choice Award’.
“It’s always interesting to see which design is chosen by those following Electrolux Design Lab on-line and compare it to the jury panel observations on award day.” says Henrik Otto, SVP Global Design Electrolux. “Good design polarises opinion and offers an aesthetic curiosity so the winner within this vote format will have submitted a concept that truly captures the imagination.”
The eight finalists in this year’s Electrolux Design Lab will present their individual compact living solutions on 23rd September at 100% Design, Earls Court, London to an esteemed jury panel of design professionals (including Ineke Hans, Henrik Otto, SVP Global Design Electrolux, Jon Marshall, Studio Director BarberOsgerby and Benjamin Hubert).
The jury will consider intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.
Voting is open to anyone (restricted to just one vote) until 22nd September 23:59 BST at www.electrolux.com/designlab

About Electrolux Design Lab
Established in 2003, Electrolux Design Lab is an annual global design competition open to undergraduate and graduate industrial design students who are invited to present innovative ideas for household appliances of the future. Over the years, Design Lab has received thousands of entries from students in more than 100 countries. Design Lab has led directly to jobs and business opportunities in the design field for many of the contestants. Three finalists are currently employed in one of the Electrolux Global Design centers and last year’s winner is doing his 6-month internship. Others have gone on to found successful design businesses. The competition has had different themes and culminates in a new city every year at an international press event. Previous themes and venues include: Designs for the next 90 years, London, 2009; Green designs, Paris, 2007; Designs for healthy eating, Barcelona, 2006; Designs of the future, Stockholm, 2005; Designs of the future, New York, 2004; User-driven solutions, Budapest, 2003. Last year’s competition “Designs for the Internet generation” was won by Stefan Buchberger from Vienna University of Applied Arts Austria with Flatshare, a modular fridge solution for shared living spaces.
