Blue Elephant commemorates 108th Anniversary of Thai-Chin Mansion with special menu

Bangkok--27 Jul--GHCAsia Ltd.

The Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant in Bangkok is housed in the magnificent heritage-listed “Thai-Chin” mansion on South Sathorn Road, and to celebrate the mansion’s 108th Anniversary, founder and Master Chef of the Blue Elephant Group, Nooror Somany Steppe, has created a special menu inspired by the national cuisine of previous owners of the mansion. The property was initially owned by Indian merchants, and was opened to the public as the “Bombay Department Store”, while during World War II, the Japanese made the mansion their Imperial Headquarters. Today, the mansion belongs to the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, which saved the building from demolition after the war and registered the property as a historical heritage site. “We were simply delighted that the mansion was available for us to make it the home of our Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant in Bangkok when the Thai-Chinese Chamber moved to modern premises nearby in 2002. The mansion’s exciting history inspired me to create the unique “Thai-Chin” menu to honour this century-old mansion”, commented Master Chef Nooror. “In addition, I was fortunate to have spent nearly 3 months in the kitchens of the grand Taj Hotel in Bombay, and have on several occasions been invited as a Celebrity Chef at the Tokyo Hilton and most recently at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai to promote Thai cuisine in India, Japan and China so with these experiences I feel that it is most appropriate for me to create a menu that is essentially Thai, but with an innovative twist that pays homage to the former owners of the Thai-Chin mansion”, she added. The unique “Thai-Chin Mansion Menu” consists of a variety of delectable dishes such as Prawn Sushi Nam Prik Phaow Plaa Yang, Dim Sum with Foie Gras and Chicken, Vegetable Samoza Spring Roll and Kebab Chicken Sai Oua, to name but a few. This special menu will be available for only two months – August and September 2011 – and diners can select specific dishes from a la carte or they can enjoy a choice of Set Menus at Baht 1,150++.
