TOPS Supermarket, supervised by Central Retail Corporation Co., Ltd. (CRC), has announced the appointment of Ian Pye as its new President, following the resignation of Randy Guttery. Mr. Ian Pye assumed his responsibilities at TOPS on 5 July.
TOPS Supermarket has also announced an official name change for its parent company – from CRC Ahold Co., Ltd. to Central Food Retail Co., Ltd. The ‘TOPS Supermarket’ name and trademark, however, will remain intact with no plans to change them.
Mr. Ian Pye has 39 years of experience in the food retail industry in the UK and Hong Kong markets. He comes to TOPS from a very successful tenure at PARK n SHOP, Hong Kong’s leading supermarket company.
At PARK n SHOP, Mr. Ian Pye rose through its executive ranks, eventually serving as Managing Director, where he was responsible for the operations of its 220 store locations. In 2002, he helped the chain achieve record profits, and last year he was appointed Business Development Director, where he drove overseas expansion for PARK n SHOP across Asia, India and the UAE.
Prior to PARK n SHOP, Mr. Ian Pye compiled an impressive work resume during 30 years of employment with the UK-based Safeway supermarket chain.
Mr. Ian Pye revealed the 2004 marketing strategy for TOPS: “TOPS is now preparing to invest about Bt300 million to develop and strengthen TOPS in terms of consumer research in order to understand and respond to their needs and to renovate and expand more branches. TOPS has recently opened Rattana Thibet branch and plans to open MarketPlace Central Festival Phuket branch by the end of this year. The budget will also be used to promote ‘SPOT Rewards Card’ programme by providing more privileges for the members, which total almost a million after 7 weeks of the launch.”
“The great success of SPOT Rewards Card reflects our leadership in Customer Relations Management in the supermarket industry. However, we will still maintain our food safety standards to satisfy our customers as well as support government policy,” added Mr. Ian Pye.
All TOPS branches and TOPS’ distribution center have been awarded Golden Quality Assurance Certificates and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certificates from the Ministry of Industry’s Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) as well as HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) from TQCSI (Thailand) (Total Quality Certification System International).
