Central Food Retail Co Ltd, operating TOPS Supermarkets, marketplace, and City Market by TOPS, emphasizes their entrepreneurial spirit of attention to quality, safety, and product quality, especially in the fresh food section, by passing the Food Sanitation Standard. The Director General of Medical Science Department will grant Golden Certificate Food Safety to TOPS’ 24 new branches, following their previous achievement as the First Supermarket have already been awarded in the past year.
The Director General of Medical Science Department, Dr. Paichit Varachit, said while officially granting the Golden Certificate Food Safety to Ms. Phattaraporn Phenpraphat Assistant Vice President, Marketing & Public Relations of Central Food Retail Co Ltd at TOPS Supermarket, Plaza Lagoon Branch, that “H.E. the Prime Minister regards food safety policy as one of the most important policies, because it plays a major role in the well-beings and good health of the people, and even the country’s economy, especially in quality control and food safety in food-selling venues such as supermarkets.”
“TOPS Supermarket has always been an entrepreneur who fully cooperates with the government sector, which has shown in their attention and determination in operating their food business in every detail, starting from their selection of quality suppliers, products, distribution, storage, as well as other controlling measures of the whole process. These, as a result, have made them the First Supermarket to have been awarded Golden Certificate Food Safety last year, and additional 24 new branches this time,” Dr. Paichit added.
Ms. Phattaraporn Phenpraphat, Assistant Vice President, Marketing & Public Relations of Central Food Retail Co Ltd, also said, “TOPS’ major obligation is to select products that are best in quality and safety, so that the consumers can therefore select all ranges of food at our branches with confidence, while at the same time fully cooperate with the government’s policy to the best of our abilities.”
“During the past several years, TOPS Supermarket thus has dedicated our best efforts to create and develop supply chain and quality assurance systems, so as to supervise every step of the process, for the highest quality, safety, and cleanliness of our products, as well as to increase work efficiencies. Our staff members who have been fully trained in freshness, cleanliness, and safety control of our food products, are always determined to work together to offer the consumers food that is best in both quality and safety.”
To be granted the prestigious certificates and Golden Certificate Food Safety from the Director General of Medical Science Department, food entrepreneurs need to be inspected and certified by the Medical Science Department, as well as other agencies as assigned by the Ministry of Public Health, who will therefore inspect the general hygienic conditions according to the regulations of food services, i.e. cooking, selling, keeping, and food random sampling at food establishments. Three inspections must be passed, followed by another inspection within 6 months after being granted the certificate, without prior notice. One random inspection or more will also be carried out in order to maintain and continue food safety standards for the consumers.
Currently, 57 branches of TOPS Supermarket nationwide have already been granted the Golden Certificate Food Safety from the Director General of Medical Science Department. They have targeted to earn more for all branches by the end of this year.
