Bangkok - TOPS Supermarkets is celebrating its annual Tamarind Festival from January 14-27 at all 47 branches countrywide, to help promote the tamarind and products made from this popular Thai fruit. The Festival is in support of the government's policy on Community Economics, and to help promote high-quality local products and the farmers and businesses who produce them.
Chiranan Poopat, Vice President, B&M, Marketing said: "TOPS is proud to be supporting another government initiative with our Tamarind Festival, in which we're highlighting the uniqueness of the tamarind and tamarind-derived products. We're continually striving to strengthen our relationship with customers and within the communities we do business by hosting many festivals and events to support local products. Over the past seven years, these have included events such as the OTOP Festival, Food Safety Event and Doi Kam Festival."
For the Tamarind Festival, TOPS is cooperating with the Phetchaboon's Administrator, Office of Commercial Affairs, Office of Agricultural Affairs and Tourism Association, and has invited 15 famous Phetchaboon tamarind farmers to promote and sell their products at TOPS, including Sri Thong Tamarind, Sri Chompoo Tamarind, Intaphalam tamarind, and tamarind preserves.
TOPS has set up special kiosks for the Phetchaboon farmers to sell their products in 13 Bangkok and four upcountry branches. Fifty OTOP products will be on display at the kiosks, including 20 five-star OTOP products.
"Through the festival, we have opened windows of opportunity for these farmers to meet directly with their retail customers, and expand their business," said Poopat.
The opening ceremony was held on January 15 at TOPS Central RamaIII, with a special traditional Thai performance and presentation from the president of the Phetchaboon Tourism Association.
Phethaboon Deputy Governor, Mr. Vittaya Suvajananon, who was the guest honour at the opening ceremony, commented: "The Tamarind Festival is a great example of cooperation between the Government and Private sectors, who are working together to initiate programs that benefit local business, products and the consumers."
"TOPS has a good reputation for their quality of products and cooperation with the government, so we are proud to work together for the sake of promoting Phetchaboon and our products," Mr. Tuengfahng added.
