A late boost in sponsorship has enabled the Royal Overseas League Thailand (ROSLT) to offer a first prize of 100,000 bt in cash and two return air tickets to the UK, for the Young Artist of Thailand competition. The lift in sponsorship has prompted the Council of ROSLT to extend the original closing date to 5.00 pm on Thursday, October 22. “Thanks to some very generous commitments from new sponsors, the competition will continue to offer this valuable first prize,” said ROSLT Chairman Jim Napier. “The opportunity to exhibit your work in OverSeas House in central London, next to St. James’ Park, provides a truly international stage for Thailand’s most talented young artists.” Inaugurated in 2007, the Young Artist of Thailand Competition offers young artists the opportunity to have their work exhibited at Overseas House in London, the global headquarters of the Royal Over-Seas League. Entries are open to anyone 14 – 20 years of age who has been living in Thailand for at least one year. Contestants can submit one piece of two-dimensional hanging art. The work must be original and must not have received an award in any other national art competition. In 2007 the competition attracted a total of 144 entries. Such was the interest engendered by the inaugural competition, that entries leapt 168% to 377 for the 2008 competition. The 2008 Thailand Young Artist of the year Khun Patcharaporn Arunsirichok returned from London in July, where she was a guest of the Royal Over-Seas League at OverSeas House. About the Royal Over-Seas League: The Royal Over-Seas League is a self-funded, non-profit Commonwealth organisation which offers clubhouse facilities to members, organises Commonwealth art and music competitions and develops joint welfare projects with specific countries. The Thailand branch of Britain’s Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) was formally inaugurated on the 14th of November, 2005, as the organisation celebrated its 95th anniversary. Since its formation the ROSL in Thailand has launched two key art and music competitions – the Young Artist of Thailand, and The Conrad Young Musician of Thailand.
