Bangkok--Jul 10--Thai Airways International Pcl. The Catering Services Department of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) has been awarded the Hazard Analysis and Critical Contro Point (HACCP) certificate approved by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, Ministry of Industry and the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Public Health. Mr.Nikom Raviyan, Director of THAI's Catering Services Department, announced that "After receiving the ISO9002 certificate last October, our Catering Department still continues to maintain its standard in the catering business and has developed further to acquire the HACCP in accordance with the international standard established and guaranteed by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization operating under the United Nations. HACCP is the system which has been set to meet and cover the safety standard of food production which includes the raw materials, ingredients, production processes, storage delivery and consumption. The major emphasis of the system is for an organization to establish its standards to control the line of production to prevent any occurrences which could effect food safety. HACCP helps create and enhance not only customer airlines confidence but that of passengers flying on board those airlines as well as on THAI's own flight. Through such successful operation, a positive image of the department and of THA will strengthen the airline's position in the fiercely competitive world market. "On May 7th this year, team of auditors came to inspect our catering premists. There were officers from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, and the food and Drug Administration, including an expert from the United Kingdom." said Mr.Nikom. THAI's Catering Services Department submitted its request for HACCP on November 10 1997, and become the proud recipient of the certificate on June 23, 1998. On June 20, 1997, THAI's Catering Services Department received the Good Manufacturing Practice Award (GMP) from the Thai Industrial Standards institute. The Catering Services Department is the first airline caterer in Indochina to receive the ISO9002 certificate and there are only a few airline caterers in Asia that are the recipients of all three of these well known certificates (ISO9002, GMP, HACCP) in the same premises.
