Bangkok--Dec 19--Penner-Madison
Three industry leaders in enterprise storage solutions - VERITAS Software, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Brocade announced a joint-initiative to provide businesses with one-stop solutions in storage hardware, software and devices.
With data availability as the central focus of the three-way collaboration, this joint initiative sees the melding of the different storage components into intelligent solutions that enable customers to manage their explosive data growth, achieve higher accessibility to data, have better manageability and performance of their storage environment, and realize a higher return on their IT investments.
The packaged solutions, applicable both on the Unix and Windows platforms, are now made available to businesses and include:
“IT Productivity bundles” -- comprising HP Surestore Virtual Array 7100 and VERITAS Volume Manager
“Simple SAN bundles” -- comprising HP Surestore Virtual Array 7100, Brocade Silkworm 2400, VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS SANPoint Control
“The joint offerings are 'one-stop' solutions to meet the needs of heterogeneous computing environments and to reduce technical complexity,” said Hesby Lisapaly, Product Marketing Manager, Network Storage Solutions Operations, Asia Pacific of HP. “This will allow businesses to effectively and easily manage the growth of their storage requirements without having to work with multiple vendors and worrying whether the solutions are compatible.”
Agreeing with Lisapaly, Rosemary Stark, Product Marketing Manager, Asia Pacific, VERITAS Software Data Systems said, “As companies increasingly see the importance of data availability as a necessary and formidable competitive weapon, a sound storage strategy is critical and this alliance will make storage management a less formidable task for businesses.”
The partnership will see VERITAS provide its essential storage software to protect, access and manage critical data - spanning storage virtualization to SAN management. As the hardware partner in this arrangement, HP will be sharing its latest storage inventions that provide high storage capacity and performance at a low-cost.
Bridging the hardware and software components, Brocade's Silkworm fabric switches provide full-fabric support, line-speed switching and intelligent infrastructure to support connectivity. Together, the three leaders in the enterprise storage space will enable customers to create a highly reliable and scalable environment for storage networks.
Lisapaly from HP said, “As the world's leading provider of Enterprise Storage Systems and SAN Infrastructure, coupled with VERITAS' essential storage software solutions and Brocade's switches, we are offering our customers ease of storage management and excellent returns on investment.” “This forms part of our strategy to expand our customer base to provide businesses with a value proposition which cannot be matched. We believe this partnership will achieve this and more. To do this, we will continue to support and share our expertise with our partners,” Lisapaly added.
VERITAS' Stark lauded the collaboration and said; “VERITAS has been the world leader, not only in Storage Virtualization and backup, but also in Storage Area Network (SAN) technology. This deal will pave the way for easier SAN implementation. Leveraging on SAN, businesses will be able to back up, restore and access data across a cluster of storage devices accessible to multiple servers and managed as a single resource.” “In the face of a surge in demand for data availability, the partnership allows businesses to select best-of-breed storage solutions from a single contact point,” elaborated Stark.
Adding to that, Deb Dutta, Director of Southeast Asia and India for Brocade, said, “Our customers are looking for higher storage availability, coupled with the capability of instant improved IT productivity. So, there is a bright future for this all-in-one convenience model.”
“Because the products in the bundle are already fully-integrated, implementation time for users can be greatly reduced. Installation and support time is cut by more than half, and if data means money, businesses will enjoy higher revenues and return on IT investments,” Dutta said.
As a part of today's fast-changing economy, industry watchers are advising businesses to manage their corporate data more efficiently. “Information grows at approximately 90% per year, and it's only retired at about 10% per year.” - “Gartner IT Symposium 2001” By Michael Maoz Gartner Group, “In the early 1990s the split between server and storage spending for enterprise class servers was 70/30; now the ratio is reversed... The sheer competitiveness of your company depends upon how much relevant customer and market data you collect and, equally importantly, how you manipulate it to extract information for decision-making. Clearly, the type and quality of storage infrastructure is more important than ever before.” - “Intelligent The Big Storage Picture” By Arun Taneja Intelligent Enterprise. According to another research by IDC, the worldwide storage market in 2002 is expected to reach US$ 45 billion with the Unix market alone expected to account for US$10 billion.
