Seminar series on effective disaster recovery planning for business continuity Bangkok (15 March 2002) - VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS) and three industry leaders in enterprise storage solutions will join forces in Bangkok to update technology managers on the latest techniques in disaster recovery to eliminate unplanned downtime and data loss whilst ensuring business competitiveness in the event of disasters.
VERITAS Software, the leading provider of storage software solutions, is partnering with Brocade, Compaq and StorageTek to organize the Disaster Recovery seminar – a four-city session series that will begin in Kuala Lumpur on March 12 before moving on to Singapore (March 13), Bangkok (March 15), and Manila (March 19).
In the seminar, experts from VERITAS, Brocade, Compaq, and StorageTek will show participants how to assess their disaster recovery requirements, minimize downtime with fast recovery solutions, diminish risk of data loss and reduce costs associated with downtime.
Flying in from VERITAS U.S. is disaster recovery expert, Jim Senicka, who will explore the concepts of leveraging the available technologies to protect an IT environment against a disaster, examine the principles required in the disaster recovery process of data backup and recovery and highlight advanced technologies beyond the basic safety net.
Technology heads of companies in Thailand will gain insight on how to effectively plan and execute a good disaster recovery plan that will optimize existing resources, address key priorities and ensure fast implementation whilst leaving room for growth.
According to a Gartner research paper, two out of five enterprises that experience a disaster go out of business within five years. Business continuity plans and disaster recovery services are core essentials to ensure continuing viability (“Disaster Recovery Plans and Systems Are Essential,” Roberta Witty, Donna Scott, Gartner FirstTake12 September 2001).
“Information drives business. A disaster affecting a data center can cause days or even weeks of unplanned downtime and data loss that could threaten an organization's productivity. For businesses that increasingly depend on data and information for their day-to-day operations, this unplanned downtime can also hurt their reputation and bottom line. A disaster recovery plan is a business necessity. Whether a company is large or small, they need to reduce or even eliminate the threat of data loss and downtime in the face of a site-wide disaster” said Eric Hoh, regional director of VERITAS Software Asia South.
Stressing the importance of specialized expertise and technologies to ensure continuous data protection and availability, he highlighted the importance of building a disaster recovery plan into the IT strategy.
“A good and effective disaster recovery plan is an absolute must for businesses today. In these difficult economic times, it is all the more essential to have the flexibility to choose the right disaster recovery solutions, on an application-by-application basis, that work across all operating systems and hardware platforms to ensure business continuity and growth,” Hoh added.
Affirming the growing awareness and need for strategic disaster recovery planning, the disaster recovery seminar has received positive responses with over 250 registrations to date. With relevance to IT managers, system integration/development administrators and engineers who are involved in the design and implementation of disaster recovery plans into the IT infrastructure, the seminar was held at …, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
