Market-Leading Software Increases Efficiency and Ease of Use for Global Data Protection
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS) announced the next generation of VERITAS NetBackup? software, the world’s No. 1 networked backup and recovery solution. With support for organizations of any size, VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 offers new capabilities that automate disaster recovery solutions and more cost-effectively manage global data backup and recovery operations for even the largest databases or enterprise environments.
VERITAS Software’s flagship data protection solution advances the state of backup and recovery while providing companies the choices they need to lower the total cost of keeping their business operations safe.
“With system downtime for a highly automated company costing millions of dollars an hour, businesses must turn to proven and trusted backup and recovery solutions," said Ray Paquet, vice president and research director, Gartner, Inc. “At the same time, they are facing the increased pressures of managing rapidly increasing amounts of data with smaller budgets and fewer personnel. Reducing the cost of data management and simplifying the recovery process should be a primary objective for any IS organization.”
Delivers Significant Disaster Recovery Automation
As part of a comprehensive portfolio of disaster recovery solutions, VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 further automates disaster recovery with the addition of VERITAS NetBackup? Vault, an off-site tape backup management solution that protects users against site disaster by automating the rotation of tapes offsite. In addition, VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 is now available with a bare metal restore option to minimize downtime in the event of a catastrophic loss or corruption of server hardware. VERITAS NetBackup Bare Metal Restore? accelerates full system recovery by automatically reinstalling the operating system, reconfiguring the system to its previous state, and recovering user data across the network.
Simplified Global Data Monitoring and Real-Time Reporting
VERITAS Software has set a new standard for monitoring and real-time reporting of backup and recovery on a worldwide scale with VERITAS Global Data Manager?. As an option to VERITAS NetBackup, the new version of VERITAS Global Data Manager consolidates reporting on a real-time basis, which reduces the personnel needed to monitor backup and recovery across a highly distributed, global enterprise.
Expanded Backup and Recovery Innovations
The latest version of VERITAS Netbackup also leverages the significant research and development resources of VERITAS Software to provide a number of advances to the state of data protection, including:
- Enhanced backup and recovery of Oracle databases – Easy-to-use automation “wizards” eliminate the complexity of data management and reduce the time and cost to train data managers.
- Integrated data snapshot technologies – Continuing the VERITAS VERTEX? Initiative, the new VERITAS NetBackup Array Integration option and VERITAS NetBackup ServerFree Agent enable companies to back up their enterprise environments with zero impact on application uptime and a significant reduction in the use of server-based resources.
- Extended Data Migration to reduce total cost of ownership – By leveraging core components of VERITAS NetBackup 4.5, VERITAS NetBackup Storage Migrator? for Unix moves infrequently accessed data to less expensive storage devices.
“VERITAS NetBackup sets the standard for backup as the ‘safety net’ of well-conceived disaster recovery and business continuity strategies for customers around the world,” said Neal Ater, senior vice president, data protection products, VERITAS Software. “No one else offers the breadth of capabilities to help protect their heterogeneous storage environments.”
VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter? 4.5 and VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer? 4.5 will be available globally in April 2002 from VERITAS Software’s network of authorized partners.
