Plasma-Z Robot team wins Robocup Thailand Championship 2007

Chulalongkorn University’s Plasma-Z Robot team won the 2007 Robocup Thailand Championship, which was jointly organized by Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited, Thai Robotics Society and Sripatum University’s Faculty of Informatics. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of 200,000 baht and will also represent Thailand at the World RoboCup 2006 event, to be held in the U.S. in June. Khai-nui robot team, Songkhla University received a cash prize of 50,000 baht as second-place finishers, while Kasetsart University’s Scuba robot team is the third-place finishers. Songkhla University’s Khai-nui was awarded 30,000 baht as the team with the best technique and 10,000 baht as the popular vote team. “Seagate takes pride in cooperating with the Thai Robotics Society and Sripatum University’s Faculty of Informatics in hosting this year’s Robocup event,” said Jeffrey D. Nygaard, vice president of Seagate’s Thailand Operation. “During the past four years of our sponsorship, the winning teams have shown the benefits of the practical experiences they gained from this contest. They bring new ideas, enthusiasm and energy to the field of robotics and technology.” In the final round of the Robocup Thailand Championship, each team built five small robots that competed in soccer matches. The team that scored the most goals in a 20-minute match won. The primary objective of the Robocup Thailand competition is to develop students’ knowledge and interest in science and technology, giving them a foundation of skills needed for successful careers in our digital economy. “This contest also emphasizes on the importance of teamwork,” said Associate Professor Dr. Prabhas Chongstitvatana, president of the Thai Robotics Society. “By working in teams, students learn to solve problems together and create innovative solutions for challenges they’ll face when working in an industry.” About Thai Robotics Society Thai Robotics Society (TRS) was established in 2000 by groups of roboticians, researchers, and industrial people, involving in robotic education and application.
