Dow Corning web-enabled business model introduces more than 20 China-made silicone rubbers

The XIAMETER(R) web-enabled business model from Dow Corning is launching a new set of China-made silicone rubbers to better serve its customers, especially in China and the Asia region.

The rubbers, made in Dow Corning's manufacturing sites in Zhangjiagang and Shanghai, are available through the XIAMETER(R) website, and include three newly developed fumed-silica filled silicone rubbers. Because the products are manufactured locally, customers in China and the Asia region can expect a shorter delivery lead time compared to importing materials from Europe or America.

"The combination of our growing manufacturing capacity in China and the efficient way that our expanded XIAMETER(R) business model allows customers to purchase products will benefit manufacturers throughout Asia," said Eve Luo, XIAMETER Greater China Commercial Director.

Fluids and emulsions made in Songjiang, Shanghai have been available from the XIAMETER(R) web site since June.

Fumed-silica filled silicone rubbers

Relatively new to China, fumed-silica filled silicone rubber is widely used in food contact consumer goods, wire and cable and other various rubber fabrication applications due to its high physical properties such as tear strength and elongation. "We have more than 40 years experience in producing fumed-silica filled silicone rubbers across the globe and we look forward to sharing our expertise with local customers," said Luo.

The three new fumed-silica filled silicone rubbers now available for purchase online are:

- XIAMETER(R) RBB-2400 Base is a general purpose silicone rubber with good extrusion processibility widely used in keypad, cake mold, tube, kitchen ware, die-casting, and cable accessories for power

transmission and distribution.

- XIAMETER(R) RBB-2420 Base features high tear strength and high elongation for specific applications such as baby bottle nipples, logo, die-casting, and sealing.

- XIAMETER(R) RBB-2003 Base is tailored for China and Asia markets with excellent processibility fitting local high demands on demould. It can be cured by peroxide or platinum system.

More details including technical properties and material safety datasheets of the products are available at www.xiameter.com. Registered XIAMETER(R) customers can view prices and order online.

Expanded XIAMETER(R) business model

Introduced by Dow Corning in 2002 as the first of its kind in the silicone marketplace and unrivaled to date, the XIAMETER business model allows customers to purchase high quality, standard silicones ranging from

rubber bases and compounds to dimethyl fluids and emulsions, to sealants and silanes at market-driven prices online. These materials are widely used as performance enhancers by multiple industries, including personal care, textile, energy, construction and automotive where they provide qualities such as durability, stability, adhesion and weather resistance.

In June, Dow Corning announced that the XIAMETER business would feature double the number of standard silicone products than previously available, a new order entry platform with enhanced self-service functionality, volume quantity options, and the ability to buy from distributors for the first time. Standard technical service is available on www.xiameter.com, which is open for business in 96 countries and has a local website in Chinese language.
