Dow Corning Launches Innovative New Silicone Technologies and Formulation Concepts to Meet Expanding Skin Care Trends in Asia

          Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, will introduce, at booth C10 at In-Cosmestics Asia 2014, a unique array of high-performance silicone ingredients and trendsetting formulation concepts for skin care products. These include Dow Corning® EP-9801 Hydro Cosmetic Powder, an awarding winning Dow Corning® ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier, and new formulations for the region through the “Trend Driven for Asia” program. In this event, Dow Corning will continue to showcase “Life without Boundaries,” the newest edition of its Trends Lab program of silicone-based formulation concepts that help customers address emerging consumer beauty care preferences.
          At booth C10, Dow Corning will feature its new Dow Corning EP-9801, a product that combines the sensory benefits of an elastomeric powder with easy dispersion in water. Dow Corning EP-9801 Hydro Cosmetic Powder offers desirable effects in liquid foundations, water-in-oil creams, oil-in-water creams, lotions, gels and toners. This advanced new material provides a smooth and powdery feel, reduces skin shine and also helps mask skin imperfections. For ease of use, the new product can be added directly into the water phase of formulations without premixing.
          Dow Corning will also feature its new award-winning ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier and give visitors the opportunity to touch and feel some of the latest formulations created with this new product. The visitors will witness how Dow Corning ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier can help deliver cutting-edge skin care, color cosmetics, and sun care products. It can make formulations more attractive by providing color intensity to foundations and improving performance of sunscreens – without the use of materials containing polyethylene glycol (PEG). This quality helped the product win first prize in the SEPAWA Innovation Award 2014 competition at the SEPAWA Congress in Fulda, Germany last month.

          “We will introduce a new emulsifier ES-5600 at this show. It is one of example of Dow Corning’s solutions from Japan. It was developed in Japan and now we are offering it globally,” added Mr. Ogawa.
The introduction of award-winning Dow Corning ES-5600 at In-Cosmetic Asia 2014 coincides with the event’s designated focus on Japan. With retail value sales units close to US$40 billion, Japan has been at the forefront of the cosmetics market in the Asia Pacific region. Since 1966, Dow Corning has been operating in Japan and closely working with innovative cosmetic companies and fine chemical suppliers in the Japanese market. “In Japan, there are some mega trends such as an aged-society, urbanization, and an increasing number of working women. These trends influence consumers’ need for beauty care products. For example, all-in-one skin gel and BB cream are recent hit cosmetics in the Japanese market. These multi-function cosmetics satisfy the consumers’ need to save the time with simple but effective care,” said Mr. Ogawa.
          Dow Corning is also launching an extended formulation concept program, “Trend Driven for Asia,” at the show that caters to the emerging beauty preferences of the Asian consumer. The program will add regional flavors to the new edition of the Trends Lab program, entitled “Life without Boundaries”, with cutting-edge formulation concepts that target four important global trends identified and defined by Dow Corning as follows:
          - Crossover – Reflects the interplay of styles across generations, genders and geographies. Water-feel powder and primer epitomize the ultra-lightweight sensory experience that is prized in Japan and Korea, and being eagerly adopted by Western consumers.
          - Gen Z – Expresses individualism and experimentation. Intense matte lipstick delivers dramatic, deep color that defies convention. It glides on beautifully for a flawless, comfortable finish that is also highly transfer resistant.
          - Virtual Reality – Showcases the possibilities to create experiences and styles influenced by trends such as 3D printing technology and holographic effects. Holographic eye shadow delivers depth, shimmer, a subtle 3D illusion and a supremely bouncy texture.
          - Great Expectations – Reflects the shift from owning material possessions to seeking unique and unforgettable experiences in nature and being inspired by the amazing offerings the world provides. Inspired by the leaf of the lotus plant , a biomimetic skin cream forms an invisible shield that reduces adhesion of airborne pollutants for a clean, moisturizing and healthy sensation. Additionally, a luxurious gel cream infused with kiwi and melon extracts provides a delicious sensory and visual experience.
