Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq: FIRE), the creator of Snort? and a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today announced plans to add support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to Sourcefire’s enterprise IPS portfolio. Sourcefire also announced it has joined the Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA), further extending the company’s strategy to deliver heterogeneous hypervisor support to customers. The OVA is an organization founded by Red Hat, IBM, HP and Intel to foster the adoption of the open source Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor, upon which Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is based. “We are very pleased to welcome Sourcefire into the Open Virtualization Alliance and include their support of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization,” said Navin Thadani, senior director, Virtualization Business at Red Hat. “Our shared belief in the benefits of open source, the importance of supporting multiple environments, and the value of virtualization make this a natural collaboration. Customers will have the ability to protect their virtualized environments with advanced intrusion prevention solutions that are easy to deploy and manage.” Sourcefire Virtual 3D Sensor? (Virtual Sensor) and Sourcefire Virtual Defense Center? (Virtual Defense Center) support at least three leading virtual environments, including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Xen and VMware. Sourcefire’s support for heterogeneous environments provides added flexibility to enterprises and cloud computing companies that rely on virtualization platforms for a range of applications, including at remote sites where physical resources may be limited, or in data centers where little rack space remains. “As virtualization proliferates across organizations in a variety of industries, Sourcefire’s support for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization on KVM enables customers to deploy these platforms with confidence that they can protect their environments against today’s threats,” said Richard Park, senior product manager at Sourcefire. “Customers can extend their technology investments, in both their preferred virtual and physical platforms, while adding the latest intrusion prevention capabilities.” The Virtual Sensor provides simultaneous execution of Sourcefire IPS? and Next-Generation IPS functions. Customers can deploy the Virtual Defense Center to monitor any combination of up to 25 virtual or physical 3D Sensors. They can also opt to monitor their Virtual 3D Sensors from the same physical Defense Center they use to monitor their physical 3D Sensors.
