Bayer Thai Co., Ltd., one of the world's leading, innovative companies in the healthcare and medical products industry, launched “Young And Sexy” magazine to educate women on proper use of birth control pills. It is now available in leading pharmacies countrywide. Ms. Heike Prinz, General Manager of Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals in Thailand, revealed that “Bayer, as the global leader in Women's Healthcare, is well aware of the current misperception and sometimes improper use of birth control pills, especially among Thai women. That is why the company published “Young And Sexy” magazine to educate women about contraception in general and birth control pill in particular. This magazine will provide modern women with information on contraceptive pills, which could reduce the rate of unwanted pregnancy, to give back to the society and ensure the better life.” This 24x35-cm “Young And Sexy” quarterly magazine is free of charge. The first issue, published for 100,000 provides not only knowledge of birth control pills, but also information on beauty, lifestyle and healthcare. The magazines are available in many pharmacies, starting from Bangkok and surroundings before expanding nationwide,” added Ms. Prinz. Regarding this topic, Prof. Surasak Thaneepanichsakul, M.D., obstetrician and Dean of College of Public Health Science, Chulalongkorn University, said, “Because of current false belief, many women are unhappy with their natural breasts and take contraceptive pills to enlarge the size. In fact, the breast engorgement is only the side effect of estrogen hormone, the pills’ component that causes water retention. Therefore, women thought that the pills enlarge their breasts. Meanwhile taking the pills, women will gain weight, with fat accumulating at some parts like hip, and have rounder face. However, after stopping the medication, the effect gradually weakens. This is the reason for young ladies of using the pills’ side effect to make their breasts bigger.” Prof. Vorapong Poopong, M.D., obstetrician of Chulalongkorn Hospital, talked about other benefits of birth control pills. He revealed, “Currently, the pills are also used for other purposes, such as treating acne and reducing premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). If any women would like to start using the pills, they should always consult with the doctors or pharmacists for their own safety. Do not trust only friends or commercial ads.” Contact: Chayanan Boonyaperm Tel. +66 2 232 7018 E-mail: [email protected] Sitikorn Sangiamprong Tel. +662-553-3161-3 E-mail: [email protected] For more information, please visit www.bayer.co.th -NT- Click for photo release at www.thaipr.net
