Swedish meatballs are back on the menu at the IKEA Bangna storerestaurant.The IKEA meatballs will be available for sale in Thailand again on Friday, August 2, 2013. The re-introduction comes after the release of DNA results from an independent laboratory, and testing conducted by international quality Assurance Companywhich confirms that meatballs sold locally contain only beef and pork. IKEA Thailand will celebrate the return of the popular dish by offering two meatball special deals on August 2. A free plate of meatballs (10 meatballs per dish) will be given to the first 500 IKEA Restaurant customers on the day. IKEA will also run an all-day “10-meatballs for 50 baht” special deal (normal price 95 baht) on August 2. In addition to comprehensive testing, IKEAexpressed its commitment to improved food securityin a recent company statement – “IKEA is committed to serving and selling high quality food that is safe, healthy and produced with care for the environment and the people who produce it.” To back this pledge, IKEA has introduced new quality controls including: reducing the number of meat suppliers to simplify the supply chain, DNA analysis on raw meat and final meat products, imposing stricter requirements for sourcing and processing for all meat products, and more regularand extensive audits on suppliers and sub-suppliers.
