Daikin supports PATT Foundation to plant 320 trees as confirmation of commitment towards protecting the ozone layer and reducing global warming

          Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd in cooperation with Plant A Tree Today Foundation (PATT Foundation) is planting 320 trees at Paked Nomklao Park, in SamutPrakan Province, as a statement of the company’s support for environmental conservation with its commitment to protecting the Earth’s ozone layer and reducing global warming.
          While Daikin is determined to encourage the use of new generation air conditioners using the environmentally friendly R32 refrigerant that is environmental friendly, the company is also supporting the planting of more trees because trees help absorb harmful carbon dioxide emissions and also helping to reduce the dangerous chemical substances that are in the atmosphere.
          The company’s president, Takayoshi Miki and managing director, Bundit Srivallapanondh, are leading the Daikin team for the tree planting, which is part of the Daikin R32 Real Love environmental campaign.
Research has proven that the release of CFC (chlorofluorocarbon)gases into the Earth’s atmosphere is causing dangerous depletion of the ozone layer, which if it continues would have a catastrophic effect on plant, animal and human life.
          CFC is an organic compound that contains carbon, chlorine and fluorine, and is used in several forms as a refrigerant in air conditioning systems.R32 is a synthetic refrigerant that is gaining support for use in air conditioning systems as it does not harm the ozone layer and less contribute to global warming 3 times compares to current refrigerants . This is the reasoning behind the launch of the Daikin R32 inverter air-conditioner range in March of this year. The Daikin R32 range is suitable for residential use, and is headed by the Flagship model Urusara 7.
          “Our mission today, to plant 320 trees here at Paked Nomklao Park, is to express our real love for the environment, and to confirm Daikins’ commitment to protecting our planet,” said Bundit Srivallapanondh.
          “Daikin is the first air conditioner manufacturer in Thailand to introduce R32 refrigerant air conditioners onto the market. We firmly believe that as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of air conditioning equipment, we have a responsibility to lead the industry in environmentally sensitive technology.”
          PATT Foundation is a UK-registered charity and a Thailand foundation, and operates throughout the Asia region. PATT initiates, develops and manages large-scale reforestation projects countering deforestation and climate change.
          “PATT Foundation’s objective is to restore and maintain our forest lands in a sustainable way,” said Sudarat Sangkum, project executive.“As of today, PATT has planted almost 900,000 trees, we target to reach 1,000,000 trees within next year to celebrate 10 anniversary of PATT. Today’s tree planting activity from the support of Siam Daikin Sales will complement our target achievement.”
          “The foundation not only encourages people to plant trees but to also undertake the aftercare and maintenance for a couple years, which is very crucial to make certain the sustainability of forest restoration.” added Sudarat.
          The tree for today’s tree planting activity is “Bruguieragymnorrhiza”or “Black Mangrove” which is the tree under mangrove family. They are suitable for soil and water in Paked Nomklao area. It is evergreen tree with s around 10-20 meters height and also widely distributed specie. Community here will collect the seeds and sow them for their indigenous species conservation.
          Daikin is also on a mission of education, aiming to advise people that air conditioners using the components are harmful to the environment.
          “An air conditioning unit can easily have over 15 of years in active use,” said Bundit.“During that time, it will release a lot of harmful gas into the atmosphere. That brings ozone layer protection down to an individual level. R32 doesn’t harm the ozone layer. Also, global warming potential (GWP) is approximately three times less than that of current refrigerants, the refrigerant commonly use in industrialised countries at present. We can all do something about this very serious, and dangerous, problem.
          “Our initiative in planting trees in association with PATT Foundation is based on the fact that one tree can absorb around 800-1,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide during its lifetime and rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere appear to be clearly linked with the rise in global temperature. One billion ton of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will make the global temperature higher at 2-5 degree celsius within 10 years. To reduce the global warming, we have to reduce the harmful gas into the atmosphere. At the same time, we need huge numbers of trees to absorb carbon dioxide.” said Bundit.
          Environmental care and local community relationships are at the core values of Daikin. The company has achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification, which is the environmental management standard. Daikin has also established an Environmental Management Committee specifically to take care of environmental concerns. The tree planting activity is one of the key corporate and social responsibility activities. And Daikin has continued to conduct environmentally contributed activities.
