Covestro Thailand Powers EGAT's Eco-Friendly EV Charging Station with Sustainable Innovation

Press Releases »

Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd. reinforces its leadership in sustainable innovative materials by collaborating with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to develop an environmentally friendly Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station. The company has provided high-quality recycled polycarbonate solutions for the station's roof, demonstrating its commitment to driving the circular economy and reducing carbon emissions.

Located at the EGAT Learning Center in Thap Sakae, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, the charging station was designed under the "Enlightened EcoCharge" concept, aiming to be more than just an EV charging point but also a learning resource and model for clean energy. The station is equipped with two DC fast chargers of 180kW and 120kW capacity, accommodating up to four vehicles simultaneously. Users can access the service through the EleXA application, with future plans to connect with the Charge+ application and roaming system to support users from Singapore and Malaysia. The station was officially launched on September 26, 2025. Covestro Thailand Powers EGAT's Eco-Friendly EV Charging Station with Sustainable Innovation

One of the highlights of this charging station is its environmentally friendly and sustainable materials, particularly the roof made from Covestro's recycled polycarbonate, Makrolon(R) RE, produced at Covestro Map Ta Phut site in Rayong province. Covestro's RE Series polycarbonate is manufactured from bio-circular renewable raw materials that replace fossil-based resources, containing 72-89% bio-based content verified through ISCC PLUS certification. These materials can reduce carbon emissions by up to 100% in select grades, making it the world's first carbon-neutral polycarbonate. The RE Series offers identical properties to conventional fossil-based polycarbonates, allowing for direct substitution without modifying existing manufacturing processes. It is ideal for electronics, automotive, and medical industries seeking to reduce environmental impact while maintaining high performance. Covestro leads in developing both mechanical and chemical recycling technologies for polycarbonate, enabling plastic reuse while maintaining properties equivalent to new materials, suitable for high-performance applications.

Collaboration for Sustainability

Beyond Covestro's recycled polycarbonate roof, the charging station also features EGAT AshNova concrete flooring made from fly ash, a by-product from Mae Moh Power Plant in Lampang province. This reduces cement usage and cuts carbon dioxide emissions from cement production by up to 58%. Additionally, the station uses low-VOC polyurethane paint from Nippon Paint (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

"This collaboration between Covestro and EGAT not only supports electric vehicle adoption in Thailand but also demonstrates the potential of high-quality recycled materials in practical applications, aligning with Covestro's goals of fully embracing the circular economy and becoming a carbon-neutral organization. Covestro is committed to expanding the use of recycled materials in various products and continuously developing recycling technologies to create a sustainable future for everyone," said Ms. Nisa Suttipornphaisankula, Managing Director of Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
