depa, in collaboration with its network of partners, has expanded the OTOD Digital Durian project to support Thai durian farmers in adopting digital technology. The initiative promotes the use of mobile applications for farm record-keeping and traceability while enhancing the platform to include data on greenhouse gas reduction and carbon sequestration through digital carbon footprint tracking services. This effort builds upon a centralized platform for cultivation data and aims to empower 10,000 durian farmers nationwide. The Project is a significant step towards transforming Thai agriculture into smart farming and restoring Thailand's durian industry to a leading position in ASEAN.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon revealed that the OTOD Digital Durian project was launched in 2024 with the aim of encouraging Thai durian farmers to adopt digital platforms (Applications) for record-keeping and traceability throughout the cultivation process. The application, developed by a Thai digital startup certified with the dSURE standard and listed on the Thailand Digital Catalog, is equipped with features that support farmers in data recording and traceability. Key functions include farmer data collection for Big Data analytics, support for GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification processes, crop quality management, market planning, etc. The project has been well received by the farming community, has helped reduce production costs by over 180 million baht and has increased the overall market value of Thai durian production by more than 1.28 billion baht.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon further emphasized that depa aims to raise awareness among Thai durian farmers about the benefits of integrating digital technology into farm management practices. To achieve this, depa and its partners are working to expand the OTOD Digital Durian project by offering farmers a wider range of digital application options. The enhanced platform currently includes a greenhouse gas information feature, enabling farmers to record data on emissions reduction and carbon sequestration through digital carbon footprint tracking services. This initiative will help build the largest centralized big data repository on durian cultivation in Thailand. The Project has also received strong support from key partners, including
- The Department of Agricultural Extension - Helping select participating farmers.
- The Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand - Supporting the development and standardization of Thai agri-digital services to meet the dSURE standard and to be listed on the Thailand Digital Catalog.
- CP Axtra Public Company Limited - Expanding market channels to distribute Thai durians both domestically and internationally.
"depa aims to empower 10,000 Thai durian farmers nationwide by enhancing their capabilities through digital innovation. The next phase of the OTOD Digital Durian project will support smart water management using IoT technology, enabling farmers to control watering systems in their farms via mobile applications. These systems can operate on scheduled timers or through automation, using sensors to monitor soil moisture and temperature in real time. In addition, depa will award 500 digital coupons, each valued at 10,000 baht, to durian farmers who consistently record their cultivation data. These coupons can be used to purchase agricultural digital products and services listed on the Thailand Digital Catalog. depa estimates that the project will help reduce production costs by approximately 1.7 billion baht and increase the value of Thai durian yields by over 11.7 billion baht. This initiative marks a significant milestone in preparing Thai farmers for the transition to smart farming, supporting the nation's digital economy and society while enhancing global competitiveness and restoring Thailand's leadership in Southeast Asia's durian industry." said President and CEO of depa.
