Bangkok--Apr 3--Chuo Senko 304 Industrial Park uses Infrastructure to win IBM's first factory in Thailand 304 Industrial Park (304IP) reveals the factors that persuaded IBM to locate its new factory in Phase 1, specifically infrastructure, including two electricity generators with a capacity of 300 Megawatts, two reservoirs with a total capacity of 30 million cubic metres and comprehensive communications. Mr. Lertsin Panja-Tharpsin, Vice-President and Director of 304 Industrial Park Co.,Ltd. said of the project's progress that : "So far, 60% of phase 1 has been sold and the latest arrival is IBM Storage Products (Thailand) Limited with a factory that makes hard disk drives for export. This is IBM's first factory in Thailand for which the company took a 111-rai plot and commenced operations in December 1997. "Big Blue" is widely recognised as the world's leading Storage Products manufacturer and distributor with factories in 8 countries. So the fact that it chose to locate this one in Thailand at 304 Industrial Park is something the whole country can be proud of. It underlines the country's strong potential in several ways, but especially our ability to provide infrastructure that matches the international standards required by the leading industrialised nations, from Japan to the USA" The main reasons that IBM selected 304 Industrial Park are the suitability of its public utilities for high tech manufacturing, its land and air transport links and the availability of suitably qualified labour. The executive added that. "Because the new factory makes hard disk drives, plentiful, uninterrupted supplies of electricity are absolutely vital to the production process. 304 Industrial Park fits the bill because besides supplies from the regional generating authority, the project has two substations of its own with a generating capacity of 300 Megawatts. So not only is there enough power but it is guaranteed at all times. Another reason for IBM's choice is 304 IP's water supply, featuring two giant reservoirs with a total capacity of 30 million cubic meters which can deliver over 20 cubic meters of water per rai per day. IBM also appreciates 304 IP's strategic location at a crossroads served by a mass transportation system linking the major business centers of Bangkok, Cholburi and Nakon Ratchasima. The Vice-President and Director of 304 Industrial Park revealed that the project also provides other public utilities for the safety and convenience of resident factories and workers, including a waste water treatment system with a capacity of 46,000 cubic metres of water a day and a waste disposal system that can process 2,000 kilograms of waste per hour. "Furthemore, residents are also served by over 3,000 lines a telephone system, plus we have satellite phones and our own base station to support the 800 and 900 series mobile phone systems. Nor have we overlooked how important safety is to giving residents confidence, so we've also installed a comprehensive fire prevention system throughout the project," the executive revealed. 304 Industrial Park is owned by 304 Industrial Park Co.,Ltd. and was established with a registered capital of 500 million baht. The project is located in BOI investment promotion Zone 3 in Tambon Tatum, Amphoe Srimahaport, Prachinburi on 4,625 rai and commenced operation in June 1994.
