SET Warmly Welcomes Newly Listed Company: GENCO Trading to Begin September 28

Bangkok--Sep 27--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) announces that GENCO ordinary shares will begin trading on September 28, 2000. The SET's total market capitalization will be increased by Bt.2.1 billion after GENCO's initial public offering process, at a value of Bt.30 per share, is completed. The SET Chairman Amaret Sila-On revealed that the Exchange approved General Environment Conservation Public Company Limited (GENCO) to begin trading on Thursday 28 September 2000, under the symbol "GENCO". The company will be categorized under sector "Others". GENCO will become a SET listed company with a registered capital of Bt.700 million, comprised of 70 million shares at a par value of Bt.10 each. In addition, GENCO has successfully completed its share distribution to minor shareholders, after submitting its listing application in line with the SET profit-based criteria. GENCO had earlier received final approval from the Exchange's Board of Governors in mid-July 2000. The GENCO initial public offering, conducted by its financial advisor and underwriter: SG Asia Credit Securities Company Limited, during September 11-14, 2000 offered 10 million ordinary shares at a value of Bt.30 each. Expressing his opinion on the entrance of GENCO as the first SET listed company since 1998, Mr. Amaret said that, on behalf of the Exchange, he was pleased that the company chose to mobilize its funds by listing on the SET. In its new strategy, the SET has been approaching and encouraging companies to list on the exchange, providing greater investment opportunities for investors to participate more actively in the market. Besides GENCO, there are other companies lining up to become SET listed companies, as they have passed the SET Board of Governors' approval at the preliminary stage, e.g. BTSC. Additionally, Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Co., Ltd. is also in its share distribution preparatory stage. To mark the entrance of GENCO as a newly listed firm, the Exchange will hold a New Listing Ceremony on GENCO's first trading day (Thursday, September 28, 2000) on the first floor of the Stock Exchange of Thailand Building. Investors, industry practitioners and media representatives are invited to participate in this special occasion. Revealing reasons why GENCO has registered its company at the SET, Mr. Sripop Sarasas, CEO, noted that loans from financial institutions were difficult to obtain due to the economic crisis. At the same time, the company needs to expand its business operations to meet with its objective in operating the country's treatment and disposal of industrial waste. Accordingly, the company's Board of Directors recognized the SET as a suitable channel through which to mobilize its funds, especially given the current economic situation.
