Press Releases »

Bangkok--Oct 30--British Council 15 October - 30 November 2003 at the British Council, Siam Square 18-24 November 2003 at the Central Airport Plaza, Chiang Mai 3-22 December 2003 at the British Council, Lad Prao "Magic Pencil" is an exhibition that invites you to discover how something as common as a pencil can create and illustrate stories, take you to magical places, and make your imagination fly. This new British Council touring exhibition has been selected by the celebrated children's author and illustrator, Quentin Blake, the first incumbent of the post of Children's Laureate. The UK has a celebrated history of innovative book design and illustration and the works of earlier generations are known and loved worldwide. For many, the illustrations to Alice in Wonderland, Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh were their first introduction to British culture. Magic Pencil shows how today's illustrators reflect contemporary concerns with equal force and originality; and how their work incontestably establishes this as a second golden age of British illustration. The exhibition features - 60 facsimile prints of original artworks by 13 of the UK's most accomplished and celebrated illustrators today - a film programme showing the animated works of several artists - a comprehensive book exhibition - two Dorling Kindersley interactive CD-ROMs Stowaway! and Castle Explorer that feature the acclaimed illustrations of Stephen Biesty Workshops and competition in November - Creative Writing - Illustration - Story Telling For further information, please contact the British Council on 02 652 5480 ext 108.
