Real-time collaboration solution delivers a rich, interactive, information-sharing platform for front-line units
Macromedia (Nasdaq: MACR) today announced that the U.S. Army’s 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team (BCT) utilizes Macromedia? Breeze? Live to power real-time battlefield collaboration. Using the rich, intuitive Breeze interface, the 172nd Stryker BCT delivers mission-critical information such as enhanced satellite images and greater situational awareness throughout the brigade.
The 172nd Stryker BCT selected Breeze Live to deliver a rich, detailed collaboration environment to units in real time. Breeze Live uses Macromedia Flash? Player, which is already installed on more than 98 percent of Internet-connected machines, including Department of Defense (DoD) computers. With the client software already installed, and minimal bandwidth requirements, Breeze Live is JITC approved and can be rapidly integrated with existing hardware and software solutions.
Combat-exercise tested, Breeze Live provides brigade leaders with access to a fully integrated collaboration solution, including audio, video, whiteboard, screen sharing, and chat capabilities, in a bandwidth-light format. Rather than waiting for a briefing or physically traveling distances in a convoy to a command post location to secure a common operational picture, battalion commanders and staff simply log on to a secure conference and receive battlefield information in real time.
The Stryker BCTs are a key element in Defense Transformation, representing a hybrid between rapid global response and sufficient force projection. The Stryker BCTs rely on information superiority to conduct operations – often outwitting and outmaneuvering opponents to save lives. Turning information into battlefield decisions demands the swift relay of information from one source to another.
The simplicity and richness of the collaboration interface, combined with the ease of accessing the solution over virtually any Internet connection, allows the Stryker BCT to rapidly disseminate information in multiple formats, including graphic-enhanced images and streaming video. In the recent War fighter Exercise, used to prepare the Stryker BCT for deployment, Breeze Live was used for a variety of mission critical operations including: Battle Update Briefs, Intelligence Update Briefs, Fire Support Rehearsals, Combined Arms Rehearsals, War-gaming, Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP)/Rock Drills, Commanders Conference Calls, and Battlefield and Operating Systems (BOS) Collaboration.
"Defense Transformation requires that front line units share information in a format that is both rich in content and light in bandwidth requirements," said Barry Leffew, vice president, government sales, Macromedia. "Breeze Live is an easy-to-use collaboration tool that provides units operating either in the garrison or at the point of conflict with a better common operational picture, faster delivery, and intuitive technical interface."
