Optimized for regional and metro WDM networks, ECI's ROADM offerings include 'Pluggable', WSS with built-in amplifiers and Wavelength Blocker CHICAGO, IL. June 7, 2005 - ECI Telecom (NASDAQ: ECIL) announced the addition of Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) solutions to its XDM(r) platform. By providing a wide range of ROADM capabilities, including pluggable ROADM, WSS with built-in amplifiers and a Wavelength Blocker, ECI offers carriers the most flexible and comprehensive optical platform. The XDM ROADM options provide the wavelength provisioning flexibility that carriers require while meeting the economical challenges carriers face.
ECI's most cost-effective ROADM solution - the "pluggable ROADM" - provides the benefits of competing ROADM offerings but at significantly lower costs.
By adding one simple installation step alongside the installation of the
transponder and corresponding drop fiber interconnect, ECI's XDM can reduce the initial ROADM deployment costs by over 50%. This ROADM solution eliminates the need to realign levels with the addition or removal of wavelengths. ECI has filed a patent application for this unique installation solution.
ECI is integrating Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) based ROADM technology into the flagship XDM MSPP/MSTP platform. Optimized for regional and metro applications, the XDM WSS ROADM solution will support up to 8 "colorless"
add/drop ports and has built-in metro optical amplifiers. The advanced WSS
technology provides access to all wavelengths at every port, thus paving the way for flexible and fully managed multi-ring and full mesh networks. The built-in metro optical amplifiers reduce the complexity and lower the cost of ROADM nodes. There is also an amplifier option available for regional applications. For carrier networks that need support for up to 40 channels, ECI offers a Wavelength Blocker that is optimized for managing HUB sites.
"ECI continues to develop and deliver new functionality to a very stable and proven XDM platform," said Eran Dariel, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ECI Telecom's Optical Division. "By introducing a wide range of advanced ROADM options, this paves the way for the growth of reconfigurable DWDM networks."
Service providers and carriers now have a full spectrum of ROADM capabilities available in one converged and easily configurable platform.
The Pluggable ROADM is already field-proven with several deployments while the WSS and Wavelength Blocker will be in trials in three months.
ECI will display its advanced ROADM technology at Supercomm.
About XDM
The XDM leads the way as the industry's most all-purpose, Multi-Service
Provisioning Platform (MSPP/MSTP) featuring all-optical networking with cost-effective sub-lambda grooming by aggregating multiple low rate services such as SONET/SDH, IP, ATM, and Gigabit Ethernet to a single wavelength.
Also, featured on the converged platform is advanced data functionality
including Ethernet Layer 1 and 2, SONET/SDH, CWDM and DWDM. With on-demand network scalability and the single architecture approach enables providers to build next-generation services as needed. This allows them to plan and accommodate for unexpected capacity growth in each layer, from the network edge to the metro core and regional.
