Shin Satellite today confirms that Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), the U.S. satellite manufacturer has shipped Thaicom-4 (IPSTAR) to the launch site of Arianespace at Kourou Space Center, French Guiana, South America. The satellite was shipped via Antonov airplane from California, U.S.A. on June 7th after Arianespace, the launch service provider had confirmed successful complementary tests of Ariane 5G launch vehicle, which will launch the world’s largest commercial satellite at 6,505 kilograms.
Thaicom-4 (IPSTAR) arrived at Kourou Space Center on June 8th and the satellite has been transported to a processing hall. SS/L and Arianespace have completed a launch base operations plan and the launch campaign is underway for the launch in the early morning of July 8 (Kourou time).
Thaicom-4 (IPSTAR) is the world's first dedicated broadband satellite covering 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It will serve between 2 and 4 million broadband users not served by conventional ADSL and other terrestrial services. The successful launch of IPSTAR-1 will play a significant role in closing the digital divide in the Asia-Pacific region.
