The British Council New Textile Designer Competition Theme: Contemporary design with Thai influence for hand weaving Prizes: A suumer course at the Chelsea College of Arts and Design, Unviersity of the Arts London. The prize will include a return flight to London, accommodation and subsistence allowance. Merited and finalists' works will appear on the British Council website alongside those of Young British Designers’ work. Next to a photo of your work, the following information will appear: Designer's name, age, place of study. Entry work should have the following details: 1. Sketch board size A3 and over 120 gramme thick. 2. The sketch board will consist of the following elements: - picture/photo of your inspiration which have an influence from Thai fabric which does not have to be only the pattern, it can be colour, process or the production or weaving techniques or the belief that exist in the fabric. - Show how to develop from the inspiration to your design (the development of your design from the inspiration) - Practical drawing – details of thread, number of shafts, colour, number of weft and worb thread per inch - One idea can be developed to be more than one design 3. original work and never submitted to any competitions before Rules and Conditions 1. The competition is open to Thai Nationality aged between 18 - 25 as of 15 May 2005. 2. Employees of the British Council or their relatives are not eligible. 3. Only one entry per person. It must be accompanied by a completed application form, a copy of ID card. Print a copy of the form or copy the details onto a piece of paper. 4. The submitted work must not have been previously entered into competition. 5. Include with your entry form and your work a sheet of paper on which you write your full name and a caption of no more than 50 words explaining why your design represents "theme". Text can be written in Thai or English. 6. Entries are to be taken to British Council centres or posted to The British Council, 7. Entries received later than 15 May 2005 will not be considered. 8. The British Council retains the right to publish all entries online and in other British Council publications without fee. 9. The British Council cannot be held responsible for loss of or damage to any work if they are not collected within deadline stated in para 14. 10.The British Council will not be responsible for any claims or complaints from any persons or properties depicted in the works. All such responsibilities will remain with the entrant. 11.Entries will be short-listed by 25 May 2005. The short-listed works will then be judged by UK Textile Designer. 12.Results will be announced on the British Council website on 2 June 2005. 13.Works will be collected by the entrants or the British Council can post the work back, but will not be responsible for any loss or damage. 14.Designers whose works have not been short-listed can collect their works after 30 May 2005.
