ECI Telecom (NASDAQ: ECIL) today announced that Beijing Subway has selected its solutions to expand their internal communications system network in
preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games.
During the Olympics, it is expected that millions of people will be using
the subway. ECI is supplying Beijing Subway with the optical transmission to expand its network capabilities for video monitoring, surveillance and safety.
According to Xinhua.net, it is estimated that Beijing has pumped 220 billion yuan (some 27 billion U.S. dollars) into infrastructure development such as
the city's subway system. By 2008, Beijing will have 200 km of subways, including a special line catering for the Olympics along with an upgraded internal communications system network for it.
ECI Telecom is a provider of world-class telecommunications solutions and
has enjoyed steady growth in their optical and DSL market share in China.
Last year, ECI acquired Eastcom as part of their new R&D and manufacturing operations in the region.
