Bangkok--19 Nov--

When the gates to the city’s cherished Ploenchit Fair open next Saturday at Shrewsbury International School, visitors to “Bangkok’s Biggest Day Out” will find that the exciting theme of the British fairground is more popular than ever. Every square foot of stall space sold out several weeks ago, said Carolyn Tarrant, president of the British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN) and the Fair’s organizer since 1979. She’s had to turn away would-be participants looking for the chance to market their goods to thousands of fair-goers and help with the worthy goal of fund-raising for the diverse range of Thai charities that the BCTFN supports each year. Ploenchit Fair 2008 features an enormous array of outdoor attractions and entertainment, with 50 market stalls in the Petticoat Lane bazaar, stimulating activities for kids and adults including Go-Karts, Euro Bungy, Giant Wave Slide, and Shooting Gallery, Thai, British, and international cuisine and refreshments, and a full schedule of live entertainment on the breezy riverside stage. The Fair will commence at 10.00 am on Saturday 29th November and it’s rumoured that there will be some special celebrity guests attending the opening to welcome the fun-loving crowd of Thai and international families who are expected to spend the whole day at this delightful event to have fun, meet friends, savour the unique fairground atmosphere, and help an excellent cause. Getting there is easier than ever with a free and frequent river ferry service from Taksin BTS station directly to the magnificent fairground at Shrewsbury International School. But for those who just can’t make it, DJs from Bangkok’s new English language radio station Wave FM 88 will be broadcasting live from the Fair all day! About Ploenchit Fair Ploenchit Fair, celebrating its 51st Birthday this year, is a traditional fun day for all and has been one of the biggest events of the social calendar in Bangkok since it was first held in 1957. Proceeds from the Fair are administered by the BCTFN and distributed to charitable organizations throughout the country. Since the year 2000 over 40 million Baht has been raised and distributed. About the BCTFN The British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN) was formed in 1999 under the patronage of the British Ambassador, replacing the United Kingdom Committee for Thai Charities (UKCTC) which had been established in 1956. By tradition, the wife of the British Ambassador is the Honorary President of the Foundation, and this year the position has been gracefully accepted by Mrs. Alison Quayle, spouse of H.E. Mr. Quinton Quayle. More information is available at www.bctfn.org. Media Photos Photos of the Ploenchit Fair 2007 can be downloaded for publication from www.studiomagenta.co.th/ploenchitfair.
