Face to Face: Portraiture in a digital age begins its Asian tour in Thailand

Australian new media exhibition ‘Face to Face’ was recently launched at the Chulalongkorn Art Center, Bangkok. Australian Ambassador to Thailand James Wise, invited the press, artists and members of the art community to view how the traditional art form of portraiture can be translated into new media. Guests enjoyed a variety of media from digital photography to video and interactive installation. The exhibition provides a unique perspective on how new technologies are reshaping our nderstanding and experience of contemporary identity. Among those who attended were leading new media Thai artists, Manit Sriwanitchpoom and Kamol Phaosavasdi. The exhibition features 14 Australian artists including some of Australia's most talented hotographic and time-based artists, Daniel Crooks, Stelarc, David Rosetzky and Rachel Scott. It builds on the success of Asialink's ongoing touring program that aims to promote intercultural understanding between Australia and the countries of Asia. The exhibition will be on display until 16 October and will continue its tour to Singapore in November and the Philippines in 2011. The exhibition was developed by Asialink and d/Lux/MediaArts.
