Tata Motors (Thailand) recently announced that sales of its pickups in May 2010 totalled 433 units, affording them sixth place in Thailand’s pickup market. The company is emphasizing its distinction as the country’s first carmaker to introduce pickups driven entirely by compressed natural gas (CNG), and incorporating a spacious flat load body and three doors designed specifically for commercial use.
The May sales of 433 units put Tata Motors in the sixth position in the pickup truck market. “Tata pickup sales have seen consistent growth with more than 300 units sold each month as we’d planned,” said Ajit Venkataraman, Chief Executive Officer of Tata Motors (Thailand). “Tata is the first automobile manufacturer in the Thai market to provide dedicated CNG/NGV pickups from the factory. Our Xenon Super CNG range has helped users to economise on fuel costs and stay environmentally friendly. We also introduced the Xenon Giant Super CNG pickup which comes with three gas tanks discreetly installed under its flat load carrier with three doors to suit commercial logistics.”
Ajit noted that the increasing sales demonstrated greater acceptance of the Tata Xenon pickups by customers in Thailand who need commercial pickups that deliver high performance, cost economy and easy maintenance. “We shall keep developing vehicles to meet user requirements,” he said. “At the same time we’ll continue to expand our dealership network while raising public awareness of the quality of Tata cars to broaden our customer base and generate strong growth.”
