World’s 4th largest handset manufacturer, ZTE commits to the global roll out of NFC with NXP
NXP and ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network
solutions, at MWC 2011 announced its partnership to incorporate NXP’s Near Field Communications
(NFC) PN544 technology into ZTE handsets. ZTE plans to include NFC chips into its rapidly expanding
line of global smartphones and feature phones, such as the Android-based QSC6270 platform devices aswell as more entry-level feature phones. ZTE handsets with NFC will be available in Q2 2011. NXP and Giesecke & Devrient Enable Mass Deployment of NFC in Mobile Handsets
NXP and security specialist Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) at MWC 2011 announced the full validation of ajoint software solution offering secure interfaces between the handset, NFC functionality and secureelements such as the SIM card. This solution enables NFC to be integrated securely into mobile handsetsbased on the Android platform and other operating systems. In addition, the validated software will meetthe needs of mobile network operators who are specifically demanding secure elements within thehandset. NXP supports NFC API extension in Android 2.3.3
The latest release of AndroidTM, version 2.3.3, will incorporate extended Near Field Communication (NFC)functionality provided by NXP. In December 2010, GoogleTM and NXP provided a complete open sourcesoftware stack for NFC on Android. Android 2.3.3 will support extended tag read capabilities, tag writecapabilities and peer-to-peer exchange, enabling developers to bring new and compelling NFCapplications to the consumer. NXP and Continental Demonstrate the World’s First Concept Car Embedding NFC
NXP and automotive supplier Continental showcased a technology concept car which demonstrated hownear field communication (NFC) technology introduces new ways for people to interact with their car. NFCis a short-range wireless technology which facilitates the secure exchange of data and is beingincreasingly adopted by mobile phone manufacturers.
