FedEx Express Thailand has leapt into the spirit of its status as “Official Carrier” for the PTT Thailand Open with two novel ‘mobile’ competitions.
In the first competition, members of the public will be invited to guess the number of tennis balls inside a FedEx Van which will circulate around key locations in Bangkok in the week before the PTT Thailand Open. Winning entry will receive a pair of VIP courtside box seat tickets to attend the Finals of the tournament.
During the week, the van will be parked at:
- Maleenont Tower (11.00 am – 2.00 pm, September 14),
- GMM Grammy PLACE (11.00 am – 2.00 pm, September 15),
- Sathorn Thani Tower (11.00 am – 2.00 pm, September 16),
- Major Avenue Ratchayothin (10.00 am – 9.00 pm, September 17), and
- CAT Telecom Headquarter (11.00 am – 2.00 pm, September 20).
Once the tournament begins on September 24, the van will be parked at the Impact Arena where members of the public can guess the number of balls to compete for a T-Shirt autographed by some of the tennis world’s biggest stars playing in the tournament.
In the second mobile competition the public will be invited to take a snap shot of any of 23 special ATP - branded FedEx vans which will take to regular delivery routes in central Bangkok in the lead up to, and during, the tournament. The vans will be instantly recognizable with colourful wrap-around branding with the FedEx ‘Live to Deliver’ tournament message. Members of the public who take a picture of the vans will then be encouraged to send a snap shot to
[email protected] . Winners will be announced daily and will receive very special FedEx-ATP premiums.
“It is just a lighthearted way of letting people know there is a great tournament on in Bangkok and encouraging them to go and watch some of the top tennis players in the world compete,” said David Carden managing director, FedEx Express Thailand and IndoChina.
“At the tournament itself, we think the competition for the one-off T-Shirt signed by the players could be pretty intense. It will be a real collector’s item for any fan.”
Although the competitions concentrate on the fun side of the tournament, Mr Carden said the sponsorship was a particularly good fit for FedEx.
“Tennis is a game which draws many synergies with FedEx. Champion tennis players are quick to respond to changing circumstances on the court, just as we do in business. They understand the value of precision, the absolute need for reliability and they share our commitment to upholding the highest standards of performance.”
The sponsorship in Thailand is part of the company’s global sponsorship of the ATP World Tour, encompassing 18 ATP World Tour tournaments in 13 different countries. As part of its global initiative, tennis fans also have access to the FedEx Reliability Zone, a specially developed portal offering enhanced analysis and information on participating players including: performance and match history; player consistency on various surfaces and pressure situations, along with videos and polls. The site is accessible through the ATPWorldTour.com.
The FedEx ATP sponsorship was launched at the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November 2010 and will extend through 2013.
