SOI DOG FOUNDATION LAUNCHES IN BANGKOK SDF Merges With SCAD

Soi Dog Foundation (SDF) today announced the official commencement of its operations in Bangkok. SCAD Foundation (Soi Cats and Dogs), a well established and highly regarded existing Bangkok-based Thai Foundation will be integrated into Soi Dog Foundation as part of the move. Ms. Phimpakarn Petpichetchien has been appointed General Manager of the new operation. “This is the first step in establishing a national organization dedicated to humanely tackling the stray dog and cat populations here”, said John Dalley, SDF Vice President. “Bangkok has a massive problem but is blessed with a large number of Thai people and groups who are working extremely hard to both find a solution to the problem and provide care for the many injured and sick animals in the city. The new SDF-SCAD Bangkok will be very much a Thai run operation with SDF providing the necessary facilities and finance to support them.” “SCAD is a tremendous organization which has achieved a great deal with a highly dedicated team, and limited resources. It is felt that by integrating SCAD with SDF a lot more can be done by combining the groups, rather than working separately. “ Annelize Booysen, President of the SCAD advisory committee stated, “Joining forces with SDF is an excellent opportunity to bring together our skills and resources to make a real difference in improving the lives of street animals in Bangkok, and later in the rest of Thailand. SDF has always been a partner to us – albeit at a distance – and we are very pleased to be joining them now in the fight for improved animal welfare in Thailand.” Mr. Dalley stated that over the coming months a purpose built sterilization and treatment clinic would be built in central Bangkok and full time veterinary staff would be employed. This would provide facilities both for the new operation and the many local people currently helping street animals but who were restricted by having to rely on expensive private clinics. He also stressed that this would in no way impact on the foundation’s work in Phuket, where an ambitious program to increase sterilizations to 10,000 per year will commence, with additional new vets and dog teams being recruited and trained. Nor in its battle to end the illegal dog meat trade and see effective animal welfare laws introduced in Thailand.
