Australia’s top Indigenous dance company to connect with Thai dance community

Australia's leading indigenous dance company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, will for the first time, be holding a special workshop and master class for Thai students and dance teachers in Bangkok. Taking place on Friday 8 March, both activities will be held at Bangkok Dance Academy, Siam Paragon Branch (13.30-15.00 hrs for workshop and 16.00-17.30 for master class). Dance is an integral art form and a vehicle through which culture can be understood. Beyond the learning of new moves and choreographic thinking, the participants will experience a unique cultural experience. They will be learning the dances of, and gaining an insight into, the world’s oldest continuing culture, Australia’s Indigenous (or Aboriginal) people. The activities will be led by Bangarra artistic director Stephen Page and cultural consultant, Kathy Balngayngu. Bangarra is recognised internationally for distinctive dance theatre performances that combine the spirituality of traditional culture with modern story-telling. Under the leadership of Stephen Page since 1991, Bangarra has celebrated Australia?s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures. Bangarra dance artists have made an outstanding contribution towards the teaching and understanding of Australia’s cultural diversity and Australian dance scene.
