The Asian Power Awards recognise the 'best-of-the-best' practices in Asia's power generation and power supply industries, and identify projects, technologies, services and people that are significantly enhancing the power sector in Asia.

APR Energy's 100 megawatt plant in Kyaukse is one of the largest thermal power plants in the country, enabling the provision of electricity and power to more than six million people. The contract for the plant, which was signed in February 2014, was the first agreement between a U.S.-based company and the government of Myanmar for power generation since the lifting of sanctions.

APR Energy was awarded the contract due to its ability to deliver within a challenging timeframe and the efficiency of its power generation technology. Fuelled by Myanmar's indigenous natural gas resources, the plant features the newest generation Cat® low-emission mobile gas power modules and offers one of the cleanest power generation solutions in Myanmar.

Clive Turton, Managing Director Asia Pacific at APR Energy, accepted the award on behalf of APR Energy. "We are delighted that our project in Kyaukse has been recognised as the top fast-track power project in the region. Myanmar is a fast-growing economy and the country needs reliable power in order to begin fulfilling its enormous potential. Our plant in Kyaukse was an important first step toward establishing adequate reliable power generation capacity in Myanmar, and we look forward to playing a continued role to help Myanmar supply power efficiently and reliably to its people and industries."

Nominations for the award were judged by John Yeap, Partner, Head of Energy – Asia at Pinsent Masons; John Goss, Managing Director of Ceejay International Ltd; and Andrew Bedford, Global Function Leader of KBC Advanced Technology Pte Ltd.
