A program of sitar and vocal music by sitar maestro, Purbayan Chatterjee and Indian vocalist, Joyeta Choudhury.
One of the big names in Indian classical music and Indian fusion, Purbayan Chatterjee, will be coming to Pattaya & Bangkok. He will be joined by the beautiful and sonorous vocalist, Joyeta Choudhury. They will be accompanied on tabla by Rupak Battacharjee, one of the finest tabla players of the younger generation.
The group will perform a mixture of Indian classical music and Indian jazz fusion.
Purbayan is one of the most versatile musicians in India and one of the most sought after Indian musicians abroad, regularly performing throughout Europe, all over the US, Japan, China, and Australia. He has recorded He has performed in many of the most important music venues in the world, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House and the Konzerthaus in Berlin. He has recorded nine CDs, one of which won the Palm IRAA Award for Best World Music Album.
Chatterjee is a master of the traditional Indian raga and has recorded numerous strictly classical albums with such ragas as Behag and Bhairavi, Yaman and Jaijaivanti. But he is also a master of fusion, having performed and recorded with jazz luminary Chick Corea, fusion banjo player, Bella Fleck, South African jazz guitarist Kunle Ayo and Belgian saxophonist Manuel Hermia.
Purbayan will be accompanied by the young Bengali vocalist, Joyeta Choudhury, an exponent of classics, light classics and bhajan. Purbayan and Joyeta will perform separately and together, charming the audience with a variety of styles.
Of course, no Indian classical concert is complete without the tabla. We are fortunate to have one of the most capable tabla players of the younger generation, Rupak Bhattacharjee. Rupak is the senior-most disciple of tabla legend Anindo Chatterjee. Master and disciple have recorded a CD together, "Rhythm of Passion". Rupak is a 'graded artist' of All India Radio and winner of the All India Radio Music Competition in 2004.
This Indian Sitar and Fusion Concert will be performed on two nights, in Pattaya and Bangkok, exclusively for Sukosol Hotels. On Sunday (June 28th) at 7.30 p.m. they will perform at Siam Bayshore Hotel, Pattaya. The ticket costs Baht 500 baht. nett. Tickets are available from the reception of the Siam Bayshore Hotel.
The Sukosol Bangkok will host the second concert on Monday, June 29th, at 7.30 p.m. in the Kamolthip Room. The entry price is Baht 700 nett. We will also offer a special discount for guests who wish to enjoy a gourmet international buffet dinner at Patummat Restaurant for Baht 709 nett per person (the normal price is Baht 1,300).
The Sukosol Hotel is only a few minutes walk from Phayathai BTS station and the Phayathai Airport rail link station.
A portion of the proceeds from the concert will be given to the Princess Sirindhorn Chulalongkorn Craniofacial Center, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society.
