The Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, opened the "Japanese Design Today 100" exhibition, a touring exhibition that combines the top 100 design works that reflect the design ideas of Japanese designers based on needs and lifestyle. By integrating science and art in contemporary design, the exhibited items also traditional culture, such as "the first soy sauce bottle" designed to allow the sauce to be poured without having to open the lid, "the temperature telling device" for an instant noodles lid, and "the small camera with wide GR lens" which is a compact camera withfast shutter speed suitable for capturing events and street-themed events. The exhibition is to spark design ideas in Thai designers and manufacturers so that they may learn the skills to mix and match things around them with local materials, traditional wisdom and design technologies creating products that truly meet the needs of consumers. Mr. Apisit Laistrooglai, Managing Director of Creative Economy Agency, or CEA said that Japan is considered one of the Asian countries which is distinguished by traditions, culture, advanced technology and innovation, including outstanding creative design ideas combining traditions and cultures with the design technology creating a clearly "contemporary" design standpoint. It has led to product design guidelines that are suitable from the past until present. Japan is considered one of the most influential countries in design.
CEA, therefore, collaborated with the Japan Foundation, Bangkok in opening the world-class "Japanese Design Today 100" exhibition that brings together products with modern design and reveals the concept of Japanese designers who strive to design products that meet the needs of people on a daily basis
The exhibition features 100 items in 10 categories, such as the classic legendary Japanese items, tableware, kitchenware and children's supplies, all of which are based on the survey of the needs and behaviors of real users. The purpose is to spark creative ideas for Thai designers and manufacturers so that they have the skills to combine local materials with traditional wisdom and varied design technologies making products with functions that effectively meet the needs of consumers.
The touring "Japanese Design Today 100" exhibition has been held for the first time in Thailand allowing Thais to experience the essence of product design and to help our future designers and producers. Later the exhibition will travel to the northern and eastern regions like Chiang Mai Design Center (TCDC Chiang Mai) and the Faculty of Fine Arts, Khon Kaen University, respectively, Mr. Apisit concluded.
Mr. Norihiko Yoshioka, Director-General of the Japan Foundation, Bangkok said that the touring "Japanese Design" exhibition has travelled to many countries, such as the United States, China and Singapore over the past 10 years with the aim of exchanging ideas for designing products for Japanese people's everyday life, coupling modern design with the 1950-60 era which has an important influence on today's design. The exhibition features 100 design works, all of which have been selected by 4 Japanese storekeepers, namely Hiroshi Kashiwagi, Masafumi Fukagawa, Noriko Kawagami and Chu Hagiwara.
The works include items such as appliances, tableware and kitchenware, clothing and accessories, children's supplies, stationary, recreational equipment, health products, transportation products, and rescue and disaster relief equipment.
