Sandra Watermann, Managing Director of Rosewood Bangkok, stated that Rosewood Bangkokchampions "A Sense of Place" philosophy that combines culture, beliefs, traditions, and uniqueness and wanted to create an afternoon tea set inspired by the Ramayana. In collaboration with Sarran Youkongdee, Thailand's leading jewelry designer and owner of the SARRAN brand, Executive Pastry Chef Dustin Baxter and Executive Sous Chef Frank Wackerhagen, we crafted an afternoon tea set that focuses on elements inspired by the main characters in the epic Ramayana. The "Sense of Ramayana" afternoon tea set will be available from September 1 to November 30, 2023, at Lakorn European Brasserie, Rosewood Bangkok.
Sarran Youkongdee, Thailand's leading jewelry designer and owner of the SARRAN brand, revealed the inspiration behind "Sense of Ramayana" which is conveyed through 6 elements and 6 characters of "Ramayana". Ramayana is an Indian dramatic work and each time we see a picture or watch a pantomime, we never know which of the characters are angry and which are kind. Looking at their faces, we don't know how the characters feel. This is similar to when we see the afternoon tea dessert and want to know what the taste is like through the 6 main characters and their expressions. Their elements are earth, water, wind, fire, gold and earth. Because of these reasons, I wanted to communicate them into food to understand the taste of Ramayana. I worked closely with the culinary team and the executive chefs of Rosewood Bangkok to create an afternoon tea set focusing on the 6 elements conveyed through 6 characters in the Ramakien, as follows:
Regarding the design of the "Ma-Li Krung" jasmine pin exclusive for KTC VISA credit cardmembers, it was inspired by the jasmine flower of modern city people. Features four petals arranged symmetrically to look like a man-made flower and is reflective of a time in the past when fresh flowers were used in Thai classical dance. The flowers from these two periods told a story of a life that was no different from a drama and vice versa.
