Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, a global sustainable chemical company, has joined forces with the Saturday School Foundation, an educational out-of-classroom organization in Thailand, to launch the "Kru Chuan Yaek" project to encourage teachers to promote recycling and a circular economy.
The project invites teachers to participate in a workshop to learn about proper waste separation, types of waste, and recycling practices. They will then develop lesson plans to encourage an anticipated 1,500 students to support waste recycling and promote a circular economy nationwide by the end of 2023.
Ms. Naweensuda Krabuanrat, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Indorama Ventures, said, "We are pleased to partner with the Saturday School Foundation to develop knowledge and educational resources on waste separation and recycling. The trained teachers will be able to pass on this knowledge to educate their students within their respective schools and local communities, which can effect positive behavioral changes in waste management. The collaboration reflects our shared commitment to promote social and environmental responsibility, as well as accelerate learning among teachers and students about protecting the environment and society."
Mr. Sorawit Paiboonrattanakorn, Founder and CEO Of Saturday School Foundation, added, "Education plays a pivotal role in shaping students' perspectives and behaviors regarding the environment. Through the joint effort of both organizations, we aim to inspire and empower the next generation to become environmentally conscious citizens. Teachers are the driving force in creating learning spaces for children to learn more about matters that interest them outside of the classroom, including proper waste separation and sustainable waste management and pass on this knowledge to others in society."
The "Kru Chuan Yaek" project provides teachers with knowledge and materials to develop a curriculum for recycling and waste separation for their respective schools, leveraging Indorama Ventures' educational resources. The pilot project, will involve a training workshop for 20 teachers recruited through from the Saturday School Foundation network, who are committed towards creating positive changes in their schools and communities The workshop will instill awareness and knowledge on proper waste separation and PET recycling to improve waste management in schools and local communities, and reduce waste directed towards landfills. The training will focus on three pillars: recycling fundamentals, creating zero waste, and building a circular economy. During the workshop, participating teachers will receive practical training in developing tailored lesson plans that are compatible with their classroom contexts. After the workshop, the project team will monitor and assess the impact of the workshop and its outcomes, including potential for scaling up and integrating edutainment resources through non-traditional learning platforms such as Tik Tok.
