This week, Virgin Active Thailand has unveiled insights from its latest wellness survey, offering a glimpse into the shifting priorities of Thais as they embrace a more personalised and holistic approach to self-care. The data also underscores the relevance of Virgin Active's new global brand positioning, 'Where Wellness Gets Real,' launched at the end of 2024.
The survey found that 71% of Thais plan to prioritise their health and wellness more than the previous year. When asked about key wellness areas, 78% cited self-care as the most important, followed closely by physical fitness (77%) and mental well-being (77%).
Despite the strong desire for guidance on these three key aspects of wellness, over two-thirds of Thais (66%) feel overwhelmed by the abundance of information available. Moreover, three-quarters (76%) struggle to differentiate expert advice from unqualified sources. Thais also report challenges due to limited time, insufficient knowledge, and difficulty setting realistic and achievable wellness goals.
Despite this, only 16% consult experts regularly, with 51% relying on influencers and 43% turning to friends and family for wellness guidance. Additionally, 12% of people surveyed work out with a trainer or use gym equipment, and more than half (55%) responded with their preference for personalised routines outdoors.
"Our latest research reveals a significant shift in how Thais approach wellness, with self-care, mental well-being, and personalised routines taking centre stage," said Julien Bera, Country Director, Thailand and Singapore at Virgin Active. "However, the study also highlights key challenges that hinder many from achieving their wellness goals. At Virgin Active, we actively listen to the needs of the Thai community. As a leading social wellness club, we deliver tailored and holistic solutions designed to empower individuals on their journey to live a fulfilling life."
The survey revealed that for many, wellness encompasses holistic experiences, such as participating in sleep wellness programs, wellness vacations, and recovery initiatives. Respondents also emphasised the importance of accurate, easily accessible information tailored to individual health needs. Furthermore, there is a strong desire for better food options and a wider variety of fitness activities to keep routines engaging and enjoyable.
Julien continued: "We're committed to removing the pressure of unrealistic fitness goals and overwhelming wellness advice, making wellness accessible and meaningful for everyone. With cutting-edge facilities like sleep pods and climbing walls , a wide variety of classes ranging from Reformer Pilates, Yoga, high intensity training, to cardio and weights options, wellness experiences such as Sound Bath, Aqua Spa Pool, Himalayan Salt Room, and a team of certified in-house experts, Virgin Active truly embodies where wellness gets real—tailored to what wellness means to you."
Throughout February, new Virgin Active Thailand members can participate in a 12-Week Workout Challenge, offering 50% off the first 12 weeks for those who attend at least two sessions per week
