Thailand Showcases Its Strength in Future Food Innovation and Export Capability on the Global Stage through the "Food Arcade" Exhibition at THAIFEX - ANUGA ASIA 2025

Alternative protein is rapidly emerging as a global food trend, with growing interest in plant-based proteins, insect-based sources, microbial protein and algae — all recognised as high-quality, sustainable alternatives. Thailand stands out in this field, thanks to its abundant raw materials, advanced production technologies, innovative approaches, and product diversity. Thai entrepreneurs are also well-positioned to scale and adapt these products for international markets.

The Food Arcade exhibition features a curated selection of alternative protein products from Thai producers, spanning four key categories:

Plant-based proteins - derived from soybeans, chickpeas, grains, and legumes that are naturally rich in protein. These sources require fewer resources to produce, are environmentally friendly, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions — aligning with ESG environmental principles.
Insect-based proteins - including crickets, silkworms, and mealworms, which are highly nutritious, fast-reproducing protein sources that require minimal land and water. They also contribute to food security and offer income-generating opportunities for local communities.
Microbial-based proteins - produced through fermentation using yeast or bacteria cultivated from agricultural or food industry by-products. These proteins are not season-dependent, can be produced year-round, and offer efficient waste reduction while ensuring consistent quality.
Algae-based proteins - sourced from both micro and macro algae that can grow in saline or wastewater environments. These organisms absorb atmospheric CO? and release oxygen back into the ecosystem, making them a sustainable protein alternative that also contributes to environmental restoration.

Another highlight of the exhibition is a series of interactive activities designed to enhance the visitor experience and deepen understanding of future food, particularly in the field of alternative proteins. These include complimentary tastings of special snacks and beverages made from alternative proteins, with recipes developed by well-known restaurants, as well as sample giveaways from the featured alternative protein exhibitors. These engaging activities not only add vibrancy to the event, but also offer visitors a glimpse into the commercial possibilities of these products — and a chance to discover that the taste of future food can be just as delicious and familiar as today's favourites.

The Food Arcade exhibition further reinforces DITP's commitment to systematically and continuously advancing Thailand's future food industry.
