Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, assigned Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon, Assistant to the President, to participate in a knowledge sharing seminar on Learning Cities under the event titled "Weaving Stories Through Time: Continuing the Legacy of Tak Bai" (4th edition).
The event was organized by Assistant Professor Dr. Thummayantee Prayoonpan, Director of the Research and Innovation Center at Princess of Naradhiwas University, along with a team of researchers. It was supported by the Program Management Unit on Area Based Development (PMU A) with the goal of promoting Tak Bai as a "Learning City." The event took place at the Khoi Roi Pi Bridge, a significant landmark in Tak Bai, Narathiwat Province.
The opening ceremony was led by Mr. Weerapat Buntharik, Deputy Governor of Narathiwat Province. He was accompanied by Mr. Boonyiam Laosaat, Director of Research and Innovation for Livable Cities and Regional Development (Division 3) of PMU A, and Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon, Assistant to the President of the University of Phayao (representing the President). They participated in a panel discussion to share ideas and knowledge on the development of Learning Cities. The event was attended by over 150 participants and was secured by military personnel throughout the program.
The event aimed to promote cross-community learning, cultural preservation, and the integration of local wisdom in the border area. Ta Bae Market was designated as a "Central Learning Space," connecting nine surrounding communities of Tak Bai. This initiative enables these communities to exchange knowledge, co-develop community products, and sell them at Ta Bae Market, which is located adjacent to the Malaysian border. This development approach not only enhances mutual understanding among diverse cultures but also creates economic opportunities, expands market reach internationally, and stimulates long-term economic growth in the border region. Additionally, it aligns with efforts to address unrest in the region by improving the local quality of life through sustainable learning and creative economic strategies.
This event showcases the successful collaboration between the government, academic institutions, and local communities in creating a dynamic Learning City. This city not only pays tribute to its history, but also connects to the present and works towards a secure and sustainable future for a border town like Tak Bai.
