For a Greener Tomorrow: Advancing Battery Safety and Innovation for ASEAN's Next Generation

7 August 2025, Thailand: The ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) returns with its 3rd edition bringing together experts in the energy storage and battery technology industries to address the key challenges and opportunities shaping the future of energy. The event will be held in Phuket, Thailand at SAii Laguna Phuket between 27 and 29 August 2025.
Organized by the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA) in collaboration with five other leading battery and EV organizations in ASEAN, this year's conference sets the stage for ASEAN's collective drive toward a greener, safer, and more innovative battery future while also nurturing relationships among industry players to build an ASEAN community for future cooperation.
One of the key highlights will be the Launch of the ASEAN Battery Safety Network (ABSN) supported by the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) and member states. ABSN will serve as a regional platform for the exchange of Science and Technology (S&T) knowledge in ASEAN, support safe deployments for all member states through S&T understanding and strengthen the region's role in the global battery value chain through cohesive alignment and advancements in battery safety.
Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Co-founder and president of the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association, TESTA said "ABTC 2025 marks a defining moment for ASEAN as we accelerate regional collaboration to drive innovation, safety, and sustainability in next-generation battery technologies. It reflects Thailand's intention in building a resilient energy storage economy and ASEAN's collective ambition to power clean mobility and robust energy systems. We are especially honoured to welcome global pioneers such as Professor Stanley Whittingham, Professor Yet-Ming Chiang, and Professor Shirley Meng whose presence signals the global significance of ABTC and reinforces our region's role in shaping the future of energy."
Dr. Sing Yang Chiam, Technical Director, Singapore Battery Consortium, ASEAN Battery Safety Network (ABSN) said, "We are grateful for the strong support from ASEAN leaders in establishing the ASEAN Battery Safety Network, a critical first step in our collective journey to address battery safety challenges across the region. ABSN was established to drive cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the advancement of battery safety science, laying the foundation for safer deployment and use of battery technologies while reinforcing ASEAN's position in the global battery value chain. We are now assessing each member state's current landscape, priorities, and challenges as we chart a unified work plan and strategic roadmap for the years ahead."
Dr. Rezal Khairi Bin Ahmad, CEO at NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB) said "NMB is proud to have witnessed the impressive growth of ABTC as a regional catalyst for innovation and collaboration in battery and electric mobility technologies. We are confident that ABTC 2026 in Penang, Malaysia, will build on this momentum by bringing together industry leaders across the comprehensive battery and EV value chain. The event will span the entire supply and value chain of these industries. We look forward to welcoming you there next year."
The event will showcase renowned experts and pioneers in energy storage, including Professor M. Stanley Whittingham, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2019). Attendees can look forward to seven insightful panel discussions exploring key topics such as battery policy, the circular economy, grid-scale storage, battery swapping, financing, and more, with perspectives from both public and private sector experts.
Spotlighting the ASEAN collaboration, the conference will also feature speakers from Indonesia's National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology and National Battery Research Institute, NanoMalaysia, the Electric Vehicle Association of Philippines, Singapore Battery Consortium, and Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association.
Join this event to help shape the future of sustainability, safety, and innovation in advanced battery solutions across ASEAN. For more information on the programme agenda, please visit ABTC's official website.
