Bangkok Kunsthalle, a contemporary art space in the heart of Yaowarat, presents the "Blind Spots: Panels, Paravents and Screens" exhibition. The event features the works by Apichaya Wannakit, an emerging artist whose paintings reinterpret what she has seen based on emotions and personal perception. The exhibition is curated by internationally recognized curator Stefano Rabolli Pansera.
This exhibition is held out of Bangkok Kunsthalle's commitment to propelling Thai artists onto the global stage through its Artist-in-Residence program. Apichaya is the first artist selected and supported under the program to undertake a residency and create new works in Brescia, Italy. The program is implemented through a collaboration with Palazzo Monti, where Blind Spots was first conceived and developed within an inspiring artistic environment before being presented here in its full exhibition format.
Apichaya conveys her identity through paintings. She does not paint what she sees directly, but what remains after seeing: the "impressions" and "memories" that events, people, and objects leave on her sensibility. Her works significantly create a distance between "herself" and "her representations."
This exhibition stands out for its subtle use of "paravents". As the folding screen emerges as a liminal object—simultaneously surface and structure, it produces a "blind spot." While it reveals something, it hides other things, interestingly inviting audiences to ponder the distance between "what is visible" and "what is hidden". Join us on a journey of seeing and perceiving the emotional traces of the artist within a contemporary art setting at Bangkok Kunsthalle. Located in the city center, this institution is truly dedicated to driving Bangkok's urban culture.
