Thai bourse reaffirms benefits of Capital Market Academy

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has reaffirmed the role of its Capital Market Academy (CMA) in developing the Thai capital market, economy, and society. “The SET has an important role to be a center of securities trading and provide important services to facilitate investors and other market participants. In addition, the SET must promote the understanding vital for sustainable capital market development,” noted The Stock Exchange of Thailand Chairman and Capital Market Academy Committee Advisor Sompol Kiatphaibool. Developing the capital market involves close and continuous cooperation between the public and private sectors, with a common understanding of the economy, institutions, and main factors involved. Thus, the SET established the CMA so that key executives in the organizations involved would have a convenient, effective forum for exchanging viewpoints and experiences that benefited Thai capital market development. “During the CMA’ five years of operation, almost 800 executives, in 10 classes, have passed the courses and had important accomplishments in developing the Thai capital market. Recently, for example, CMA participants and alumni collectively proposed ideas on developing the capital market to the Thai government -- and these proposals were later developed into the current Thai Capital Market Development Plan. Moreover, CMA alumni have also produced academic works that are important to the development of the Thai economy and society. Currently, they are operating a project that helps reduce inequalities in society, which will benefit our nation as a whole,” said Mr. Sompol. The SET has provided experts from various fields to teach, exchanging experiences and opinions with the participants. The SET also has provided a venue for classes for the entire duration of each course. Every student must be responsible for his/her own expenses in joining the CMA “Leadership Development” workshops in other provinces and other workshops held abroad. “Participating in a CMA course gives significant benefits to Thai capital market and economic development.
