AIR PRODUCTS JOINT VENTURE COMPANY IN THAILAND TO INVEST OVER $50 MILLION IN NEW AIR SEPARATION PLANT TO SUPPLY THREE STEEL PRODUCERS/MERCHANT CUSTOMERS

Air Products (NYSE: APD) joint venture company in Thailand,
Bangkok Industrial Gas Co., Ltd. (BIG), will invest over $50 million in a new air separation facility in Chonburi Industrial Estate, at Bo Win, Chonburi, Thailand, southeast of Bangkok to serve three of the country's leading steel producers. The plant will supply gaseous oxygen, nitrogen and argon to: Nakornthai Strip Mill Public Co. Ltd. for use in the manufacture of hot rolled coil; NTS Steel Group Co. Ltd. for producing steel bar and wire rod; and BNS Steel Group Co. Ltd. for manufacturing deformed bar. The new plant also will have the capacity to supply liquid oxygen, nitrogen, and argon to the rapidly growing merchant market in the Bangkok area. The plant is expected to come on-stream in the summer of 1997.
Commenting on this investment, Luis Urrutia, General Manager of BIG, said, Our plant at Bo Win will serve the largest single on-site/pipeline requirement in the history of the Kingdom, positioning BIG for additional growth in the industrial corridor between and including Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard.
