'SIG COMBIBLOC' OPENS IN THAILAND ITS ASIAN REGIONAL CENTER & PACKAGING PLANT

Bangkok--Mar 11--SIG Combibloc SIG Combibloc Limited, a world leading producer and distributor of aseptic carton packaging, holds the grand opening of its Asian Regional Center together with the first manufacturing plant in the region and eighth worldwide, at the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate, Pluak Daeng district, Rayong province. With an investment of US$120 million, it is the largest single German investment ever to take place in the kingdom. The news SIG Combibloc plant is equipped with the most sophisticated manufacturing system for supplying top quality products and services to its customers in Thailand and Asia. The company considered many countries -- including China, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore -- for its new plant site in an aggressive market approach towards the entire Far East region. "Thailand was chosen to become our regional hub due to its strategic location, investment climate, and the advanced state of the food and beverage industry, accounting for more than 50% of the ASEAN aseptic packaging market," said Mr.Peter Herning, SIG Combibloc's Managing Director. Covering 70 rai (28 acres) of land, the plant will produce more than 2 billion cartons per year. It will supply the ASEAN region, China, Korea and Taiwan with top-quality packaging material and full pre- and after sales services. The complex incorporates a fully-equipped Training Center with a UHT plant and up to four filling lines for the training of operators, maintenance personel and other staff. The center's advanced facilities enable complete product preparation, processing and test filling, for R & D and marketing purposes. Among technical highlights of the new Combibloc plant is the high- speed extrusion machine, capable of producing Combibloc's unique carton sleeve at a highly efficient rate. The facility has also been outfitted with the newest printing presess, using the high-quality rotogravure technique with up to six colors for much more vibrant and exact images. Modelled after advanced production layouts in Germany, Austria and the US, the new plant was named the most modern in the world. SIG Combibloc's vast innovations include the world's fastest aseptic filling machine with an output rate of up to 12,000 packages per hour. Well-known Thai brand names using Combibloc's customised aseptic cartons include Lactasoy, Country Fresh, Dairy Farming Promotion Organisation and Ivy juices (IP), Nestle, Chokchai milk and Malee Sampran amongst others. The Combibloc packaging system is alternative for the Asian food and beverage industry. It includes cartons for fresh and long-life products with volumes ranging from 125 millilitres to 2 litres. In addition, the printing system offers virtually unlimited design possibilities, wide range of new available, and superiority in quality; while the delivery requires less volume and transport effort than glass or PET bottles.
