President of Unocal Corporation Visited Pttep

Bangkok--Nov 11--PTTEP November 9, 1998, Mr.John F. Imle, Jr., President of US-based Unocal Corporation, along with Mr.Brian Marcotte, President of Unocal Thailand, and senior executives of Unocal Thailand today paid a courtesy call on Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited. Mr.Imle exchanged viewpoints with Dr.Surakiart on business development in Thailand while expressing strong support to Thailand's continuing efforts to overcome its economic difficulties. With stability now prevailing, Mr.Imle was confident that Thailand is well on its way to recovery. He also expressed Unocal's full confidence in carrying out exploration and development activities in the Gulf of Thailand, where Unocal is a major operator. Dr. Surakiart said despited the current economic downturn, local consumption of natural gas replacing fuel oil as a feedstock among local industries was on the rise, as gas demand by local industries has actually risen during the first seven monthes of this year. If there is additional gas demand by electricity and transportation sectors, the total gas demand could further with economic recovery over the next two years.
