THAI sponsors "THAI Beach Volleyball Asian Tour" Competition

ฺBangkok--Mar 25--THAI Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, the Thai Volleyball Amateur Association and the Trang Chamber of Commerce held a pressconference today on the "THAI Beach Volleyball Asian Tour" at THAI'sHead Office. The press conference was chaired by Mr. Yongyuth Wichaidit, DeputyPermanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Chairman of BeachVolleyball Sub-Committee, Mr. Chalermchai Prichanond, Governor of Trangprovince, Mr.Surin Totabtiang, Chairman of Trang Chamber of Commerce,Mr. Prasit Panichakul, Chairman of Trang Provincial AdministrativeOffice and Mr. Prajak Jamrusmechoti, THAI's Executive Vice President forCommercial. A total of 32 teams from Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Korea, China,New Zealand, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia and Thailand willparticipate in the competition which has a total prize value of 750,000baht. The competition will be held between 9-11 April 1999 at the Games'ground in front of Thammarin Thana Hotel in Trang. It will help improve the skills of Thai athletes and better prepare themfor the "World Tour" Competition which will be held in Bangkok in June1999. The points to be collected by the winning teams will be used toenter the qualifying rounds of the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney,Australia. Besides being the main sponsor of the competition, THAI will also flythe athletes into Thailand, generating considerable visitor income and agood image for the country. End.
